Mooloolaba Sailfish
Gday,
I am planning on fishing the Mooloolaba Sailfish Shootout in October.
Is anyone willing to tell me where you normally find the Sails out of Mooloolaba?
I was thinking around "the dog leg" area?? Or do I not need to go that wide?
Im planning on leaving Shorncliffe on the Firday and trolling north to Mooloolaba and staying there in the boat for the weekend.
Also, what line class is the tournament normally?
I have emailed the club but haven't heard back yet.
Cheers,
Myles

Re: Mooloolaba Sailfish
Myles,
we have canned it again. It is in the Bluewater dates section but that is it. The sails have failed to materialize here in October since '03. October used to be the month in the good years of '98/'99 etc.
Fishing wise, the best bet is anywhere you find bait. The local, 8-10-18-21 mile bait marks, the Hards, Chardons/North Reef and up toward DI Pt anywhere bait is.
It would have been an 8kg line class even like most of the light tackle tournaments of SEQ.
Megan should get back to your e-mail for you.

Re: Mooloolaba Sailfish
Ah ok, thanks Smithy,
Yeah I'm sure Meagan will get back to me, I was just keen to find out some info quickly thats all. I have a mate in Cairns that was coming down for it.
I hadn't heard of too many sails around in recent time, I had been told that 10 or more years ago they were thick off Mooloolaba. Also North Moreton Trench in years gone by. Would have been fun!
Thanks for the quick reply and for the fish info Smithy.
Cheers,
Myles
