unbelievable question!!!!
unbelievable question!!!!
do people really believe this garbage, strap a motor on and you can compare.
first point the bore dia is so close you could nearly use the same piston . the stroke length is 75 for the opti and 66 for the etec. doesn't that ring bells short stroke motors rev quicker but fuel economy is less as more gases escape from the exhaust port earlier. hence the saying a opti has better fuel economy ,you cant have it both ways there is only x amount of engery in fuel.
the right sided etec will have a better bite because of the rotation of the prop and the v clerance of the hull .
the opti does not have reverse rotation in that size so will be losing engery as it has to pull water against the v of the hull.
outboards ,horsepower and torque can be moved around in a millon ways. anyone else want to add onto the list
If you are looking at speed and looking at the etec just make sure that you have a stake in the oil company that will have to supply the (only etec approved) oil for the motor
I've been in bass boats with both 115's & found that the optimax was quicker motor on a heavier hull. Ozbee makes a good point plus that test did look a little bias as it looked like it was filmed on the gold coast by haines dealer who sells Etecs..
Which ever one you paint red of course!
BigE
Evinrude 115hp is a 1.7lt V4, 170kg..
Optimax 115hp is a 1.5lt I3, 170kg..
The E-tec should have more torque due to it's extra cylinder and displacement..
But the E-tec has a massive gear housing which would slow it down..
It would come down to which boat the motor is fitted too..
Some boats preform better with an E-tec, and some better with the Opti....
Who knows
I can't believe that a thread with this heading would get onto the second page.
