    Icom M304 Help

hey guys... jus made a upgrade from the old GME 27meg to a new Icom m304 VHF.

question is. about to put it in but unsure of what is wat. wires are-

    black
    red
    green/yellow pair
    orange/black pair
    black (with yellow insulation inside)

the black n red are the power, green/yellow pair is the nmea for DSC. in the book the only other wires it shows is blue/white pair for external speaker.

it doesnt show orange/black or the other black one.

any ideas on what is what?

    thanks

    Jason

    Re: Icom M304 Help

    yes
    it is the right unit.

i called icom aust and got there technical dept.

the unit is the new model 2009 stock. they have made a few changes and improvements to the unit and hence changed the wiring.

    Red - Main power (+)
    Black - Main Power(-)
    Yellow/Green - NMEA Data
    Orange/Black - Software Update Input
Black (w/ yellow inside) - External Speaker

hope this information will help others, as the book still has the 'old' wiring diagram in it.

well its not like im new to electronics... having studied it for 4 years and now working in the industry.... pays to find out what the wires are for before u connect them and have smoke.... im sure anyone without a wiring diagram would have been in the same situation .. even a boat electrician
