Hi, I'm considering getting a Northstar 650 & was wondering if there was others out there who could give me the heads up on this unit. Are they any good?
I'm not aware of a Northstar 650, but there is a 660 which is a 7 inch screen combo, and the old 6500, which is now called a 657. It has a 5 inch screen with the same resolution.
Search the Electronics forum here for advice. They are all specced fairly similarly. I have used Navman a lot and have had no real dramas with them. I think they are a good unit IMHO, but there are some horror stories out there all the same.
Stido 1, I have had the 660 navman/northstar for over 3 years with good results and no trouble. Initialy I used it as a combo but now use it as a sounder only and back up gps if needed. It shows everthing on the same spots as my mates Furuno 620. Mine came with the boat, but I would consider buying another one and the 650 is very good value (same as 660 just smaller screen ). 2 of them on a boat would give excellent back up and are very easy to use as well. Just be aware there are complaints about Navmans, but the bulk of these seem to be the earlier models. Mal.
I've got the Navman Trackfish 6500 and find it is excellent.I have it hooked up to a Smartcraft gateway as well and feeds all the engine info onto the screen. Most of my fishing is offshore in 28-120m and gives good sonar readings.I am considering getting another for gps, that way i've got backup. If your dash allows mount indash not on bracket.Jim
Thanks everyone, I might get one as I've found one for $650 & they sound OK. Where would be the cheapest place to get the C Map for North Queensland East Coast for it?
Huge difference mate but at the end of the day the cost has to be justified. Try to check em out running in the shop on simulater maybe. Simulation mode is not completely realistic but it should give you an idea, cheers
