Thread: Stessco - in administration

    Re: Stessco - in administration

    Hi All

Generally speaking reputable top of the tree quality manufacturers don't get screwed by there appointed dealers as it is them who have the upper hand ( if you wish to be a dealer of our product this is the price you pay ).

Only those with lesser reputations for product range/quality & public awareness in the marketplace get screwed on price as they are happy to occupy as much dealer floor space as possible.

The more in demand your products are the more selective you can be on where you place them for sale.

    Cheers

the reality is...any business will have problems when a) sales are down. b) manufacturing costs are too high to be competitive c) product is no good.

It takes good management to make the hard decisions when things do not go right and I commend the management for going into voluntary admin...far better than being slammed shut by receivers.

I spoke to goodtimemarine about the issue extensively and am confident theres no problem/

I ordered the Anglapro 424 Pro side console with a few customs options. Very good price. Nice boat - I inspected the boat show demo boat in canberra on Saturday. Excellent product and full kitted, ready to go package.

Ill get the boat in 6-7 weeks. Im so excited as my last boat was a 1972 tinney with a 1982 mariner 8hp.

    Slight upgrade!

    cheers

There is obviously a problem as bringing in the administrators is not done lightly. It generally reflects a cash flow problem , and we all know about that. Too much going out and not enough coming in .

It is illegal to trade whilst insolvent and can lead the directors into a lot of hot water and jail , which they don't like.

I don't know how this translates to the dealership / customer relationship but I would be asking a few questions to the administrators if I had any concerns about fronting a deposit. Never take the word of a commission salesman as he gets his money from the sale , not the building of the boat.

If you get things in writing from the admin people you should be OK.

Don't forget the warrenty issues that may arise, things could get murky.

I dont need it from the administrators at stessco as I said earlier:-

My legal relationship with the sale is with THE dealer. Its the dealer who will have to refund me if it goes beyond the agreed timeframe. Not the subcontracting hull maker, who i have no commercial relationship with. Its not a large deposit and I have an agreed timeframe so Im optimistic. I wont lose my deposit under any circumstances, i might have to wait a while though in a worse case.

Fair enought there. I was just thinking about the warrenty issues as I remember reading on the forum how BRP disavowed themselves of any warrenties when they took over OMC.

IMO
A couple of points here that I think you have overlooked. I will declare that I have had several dealings with the dealer in question and have always found them to be up front.

I believe that Marine Tune work lergely on volume sales and a lower margin enabling them to sell at lowre prices.

If you had a real look at the boats at the show you would not ethat while everyone else had their boats decked out with 4 stroke motore and all the gear the Marine Tune boats generally were packaged with Yamaha CV range engines. Compare the prices between a 40 4 stroke and a 40 CV, it will explain a lot of the difference in price.

Stessco are a much cheaper hull then most boats on the market and I believe the reason why Alay Craft have bought out the Mate range of hulls. They aren't necessarily the prettiest or the most decked out but they spend bugger all on advertising etc which helps keep the cost down.

Why would any business continue to sell a bucket load of a product knowing that the sales wouldn't finalise. It is a complete waste of time. If they were aware of the problem they would have spent a fair bit of time switching buyers to another line of boats like their brooker range.

And finally the buyer is dealing with the dealer note theboat builder and the dealer is the person who is holding the deposit.

At the end of the day you have to put all of the familys that work there before your own hate of this company so i hope they fire again and get out of it but having said that bigger companys like trailcraft have not been able to fight back so the job won't be easy. I think that all ausfish members should get behind albo marine and its staff werever we can as we need to support the battlers that are there trying to pay the bills.
