Hi all, fished Awoonga Friday night,Saturday night and Sunday night for a few hours each.Took the ball and chain out friday, left the ramp at around 6.00.Fished the western bank on wind affected banks and points.A few hits on hollowbellies on dark .Around 8.00 the wife yelled she was on only to have a nice barra throw the plastic back at us half way through the fight. .A few more hits but went quiet.Moved to another point i missed 3 fish on 2 nights before, throwing hollowbellies ,a few more hits.Time for the Tango dancer to come out of the box.4th throw and the water exploaded, barra around 1200 flying out of the water, round the boat dove down deep, back to the boat and streight around the electric twice.Standing on the deck with a barra that size 3 meters out if reach trying to undo the mess around the motor then spit the hooks and swim away.Home time.
Saturday afternoon left the boat ramp at 4.30 with my 16 year old daughter.Wind making it dificult to fish so took a run up the Boyne.Found some water around 25.8 in a small bay.5 hits on the bellies then the daughter is on for her first barra of 89 cm is landed with big smiles and shaking arms.Happy snaps and back fishing.A few more hits then another barra flew out of the water.Round the boat, dove down deep and flew out of the water 5 meters from the boat busting the leader like cotton.DAM second big fish in 2 days.went quiet so headed home for the daughter to brag.
Sunday afternoon took the wife and kids out.More barra virgins at 7 and 3 years old.Found a bay near the old cattle yards with the water temp at 26.2. Hollowbellies on spin gear for the 7 year old daughter ,then panic stations as a barra grabs her line. After a bit of coaching and taking the weight of the fish by holding the rod she managed to pull in a 82cm fish. Big smiles, photo and back in the water.20 minutes later another fish in my line, but my 3 year old boy wanted his turn.Put up a good fight before getting him around some lillypads and spitting the hooks. Not to be outdone mum hooked on another and with mums help he wound in a 92 cm fish to out do his sisters.Boy did he let them know about it.
Great weekend with all kids catching there first barra each( even if the young fella needed a bit of help). There go my quiet trips to the dam,now they want to CATCH A THOUSAND MORE they told me.
Happy fishing Steve.
