Yep bloody ripped off i say these charter guy's get paid regardless of what they catch so getting an exemption is a joke i know personally i'm out of pocket $10000 a year minimum with the new sizes and i get didly squat compensation, the only fair thing is to adjust the size to 60cm for everybody in line with kingfish which people get confused with regularly as being in the same serola family have the same breeding cycles anyway. The only reason their 75cm is because they stuffed up and put them the same size as cobia, wahoo, spanish and jewfish just for the hell of it no science there just gumbies with no idea,
You all seem to be missing the point with this
Whats next
Well we got a permit for AJ's and Dollies so we are really suffering let see if we can get snapper at 30 pearlies at 25 kingies at 40 reds at 40
This is what can happen 12 guys on a boat can catch a lot of fish and even more if they are undersize
The special permits are for research and Indigenous access only not for financial gain. The DPI have been conned by a few commercial operators into issuing these permits. It should never have happened and it needs to be removed.

Mate, if the Government was serious it would also take a broadside hit at the Japanese Whaling fleet instead of lip service....it all boils down to politics and what dollars are generated back into the local economy.
Far side, are you saying that all permits should be removed?. What's stopping you from turning yours' in?
There have been and will always be days when fish will not be caught irrespective how good the charter operator or fisherman is. I know, I've been on plenty that caught zero all day. It might be by design of the charter op to collect money under false pretences to ease fishing pressure on the reef dwellers or fish can be on the sounder but not interested in having a feed.
No one will admit the first but the latter will always be the case.
DPI managers are from different industry backgrounds and not many are from a fishing industry background otherwise it would be better managed, one does not have to be an einstein to work that out.
That's my spin.
bondy...do you know any DPI managers?
I don't care whether fish are cuahgt or not on charter boats...does not worry me.
It does concern me when he have had all this blurb about sustainable fisheries etc etc etc and then rules are changed to suit one small percentage of the stakeholders. It sucks.
ECOfishers are waiting on a call from DPI&F on what the outcomes of some recent meetings have been on this matter. More to come once we receive it.
Cheers,
Chris

Carbon Really Ain't Pollution.
Communications are open between EcoFishers and the relevant DERM folks on this, but it appears the wheels turn slowly over there. It will be another couple of weeks before we see any developments.
I, for one, am not holding my breath.
Cheers,

If we want to stop this it's really easy!!! All Eco fishers has to do is get a whole pile of money together , find an recent ex qld labour minister and pay him to lobby on behalf of the rec fisher. I'm sure the rules would be changed within days of the cheque clearing, after all isn't that how it work up here????? I wonder who the lobbyist for the charter boys was, he dos good work???

I've heard from a reliable source that Gordon maybe available in a few years.
G'day Pinhead
It all depends on who is sitting on the committee, I'm certain there are a lot of things happen behind closed doors that will never be known to you and I and anyone else except a select few.
Also, whats not to say that a representative on the committee may have a vested interest in one form or another or could be related (e.g by marriage, family ties or a person who donates money to an organisation, and therefore given prefered treatment). Speculative maybe, but one cannot deny that it does not happen. Politicians are masters at it, irrespective of what party they are from.
I use to know two DPI Managers in the past, They did say in confidence they have no fisheries background but because they had managerial experience in managing budgets in another agency then they got the job in fisheries.
Not all them come up the ladder, like every else, brown tongues, back stabbing,
sideway transfers, etc, etc.
These DPI managers that I knew of relied upon information provided to them by their underlings or what I would call their lackies. The problem is most of these lackies take it on face value. Most of these people transfer from different Government Agencies because they are either bored, want a change of scenery or was told to look for another job elsewhere in another department.
This all works on an internal database / transfers etc.
That's my spin.
