To Wireing up Navagation lights Do I ???

Can any tell me if im on the right track with wireing up my nav lights.

l have 2 sets of wire banks 1 set negative 2nd set positive all looped along the top

Positive one side negative the other both will go to the battery via the end loop
giving me 2 banks one negative one positive.

Too wire the lights to the SWITCH.
Do I use a live positive one side ? comming from the positive bank

and two positives comming out of the SWITCH going to the lights.

Maybe throwing in a fuse what amp?

That leaves me the negative going to the negative wire bank.
Thats how l think it should go.
Am l right or of track.
I'd like to get it right first time round.

Mate, if your handy to me it might be worthwhile to drop in with the boat and get some advice otherwise it might be very beneficial to have someone show you the ins and outs.
Your boat would be a perfect candidate to show the basics of boat wiring.
Anybody else interested in a bit of a schooling??
    Cheers then
    Scott
PS I used to have a basic wiring diagram but since the new hard-drive has gone in it's gone to somwhere in the depth of it bowels.
Someone else might have one to bung up for you to see.
I intend on living for-ever....so far so good

    G'day..

It may help for us to know the size of your boat, will give an idea of complexity and future additions like bilge pump, electronics and all of that.

Very basically, run a wire from your battery + to your switch panel, this should be fused, at what size will be dictated by what else is hanging off of your switch panel.

Choose a switch you would like to use to turn the nav. lights on at once, then run a wire from there to the positive on one of the lights, connect that again to the other positive on the other light, Run a negative wire from the battery to somewhere near the switch panel, ue it as a common point. Run a negative from the far light to the nearest one, then back to the common negative wire.

There will be many many threads on doing this.

If your lights are LED, a 2A fuse should suffice. I suggest using a waterproof fuse holder.

Personally I ONLY use twin core tinned wires in the marine environment and I only solder and heat shrink then duct tape my joins. Have yet to have a failure.

I'm sure others will add more later on.
