    Gold Coast flathead lures

Hi all, can any Goldie locals (or others that have experience in the area) please provide me with any info / suggestions on any soft plastics colours / styles / brands that are working lately on lizards. And also any sucessful trolling hard bodys brands / types / colours that work regularly on the lizards. I am asking because I had a disapointing result in last years Flathead Classic and this year I'm hoping for better results.

Hi Mikey, Micro Mullet lures, pink and purple best colour and ECO GEAR SX 48in colour 305 have been two of the more consistant hard bodied lures. cheers wayne.

Gulp 3" pogy, in sardine, mango ripple(1/4 oz jighead, mcCubbins lumo are the go), 5"&7" jerkshad in nuke chicken, pearl white, camo, atomic fatgrubs chartreuse tail(brown body), squidgies in red rum and gold - should get you started on the plastics.

I second what wayne has said and would also throw in the the predatek MinMin in fruit salad colour. They all served me well trolling.
Keep smiling, It makes people wonder what you're up to.

Flick baits/Jerk shads in 3-5" seem to be lethal on a drift.

    Hey Mikey21

For me definately the gulp range & last year i used the nitro pogy jigheads they were excellent. I predominantly fish 5" Jerkshads & change the colors depending on the water color & depth. fished mainly on 1/4-1/2 ounce heads. On the hardbody front i havent trolled for a couple of years but used to use the Halco laserpro 45 & 120 shallow. Again colors depend on water color but pink hooker, gold & black, orange tiger & a purple color used to be very good.

My only advice to you is try to pick one of the techniques & stick to it. one of the worst years we had in the classic was the year we were learning to fish plastics and chopped & changed between this & trolling. We have definately had our best results on plastics in more recent years. try and replicate what you do in your local waters & fish with confidence & you will be ok. Most years the fish come from the Jumpinpin bar area or the seaway. The guys that do well in the tourniment dont fish much more than a couple of klms from these areas.

My last peice of advice is try and find any of the articles written by David Green on Flatties in the last 5 years in the major mags & read them over & over again.

Mate i hope this helps i am just about to start my pre fish for this years classic & cant wait for it to come look forward to it every year.

    Cheers
When all else fails "stick it" on the bottom!
