new Fish Finder help?
just looking for some advice. I have a Humminbird Matrix 65 (yeah a toy I know!) but it has served me well for 4yrs. Do I buy a new fish finder as a separate unit, and leave the Matrix 65 installed as my GPS which works fine, or do I buy a new combo altogether? If I keep the Matrix65 as my GPS, will it interfere with the new fish finder? Finally, is the Garmin 300C or 400C a good choice for offshore 'not as often as we'd like' fishos?

Re: new Fish Finder help?
well its a matter of taste...I reckon I would keep it as a GPS and get a better fishfinder.....like anything with Furuno or Raymarine written on it...but thats just my bias I admit. It wont interfere with a new Finder.... and just its basic GPS function will cost $500 to replace so why do that..?...but its a mater of personal choice isnt it this whole combo/2 units thing..?

Re: new Fish Finder help?
for the garmins , If going outside the 400c seems to be the better choice, it has a bigger screen than the 300, dual freq, and a good amount of watts being 500.
I want to get one too, saw them at whittworths for $400 awhile back but now most I've seen are $450 to 500, even though the it has a bigger screen than the 300 , it still seems small, my b/w 120 garmin looks like it's bigger?
I'll be waiting for it to be back on sale Cheers

Re: new Fish Finder help?
Hi
I would personally not have a combo. If something goes wrong with the gps or finder then its both you don't have.
I agree to keep your GPS unit and update to a Furuno.

That sounds pretty good, what transducer did you select 50/200 or 83/200? Can you tell us what depth of waters you mostly fish, thanks.
