Thread: Shimano Sustain FE

    Shimano Sustain FE

I'm currently looking for a spinning reel to match with seajigger 305 or Emblem pro 962. Wanna use this outfit mainly for rock spinning at 85grammers for 10kg- kinggy and some regular size longtail. After a few browse in tackle shop, the Sustain 6000FE seems perfect for this job. Is there anybody used this reel before and how is it?
Btw, Sustain 6000FE is almost the same price with Twinpower at $539, but both are manufactured in Malaysia.

    Hey mate,
Def not an expert on kingies from the rocks having only caught them outside but the seajigger looks to light to consistently land them or LTs. I could be very wrong though as i have only seen one in action but something with a bit more grunt may be better. I will be keen to see what others say though. If you went that way though a 6000 shimano would be as big as i would go as it might be getting a bit heavy for the seajigger but fine for the emblem. You would have to check the line capacity for the LTs. Good reel other than that, my brother uses his for offshore and in the hawkesbury for a bit of everything.

Maybe look at the emblem pro rod with the emblem pro reel. Cheaper and covers all bases.

Any way like i said i am keen to see what others say for my interest as well as i might look to chase some down the track as well.

Should be ok for the job mate. Depends on how consistantly you catch 10kg kings, and also if something bigger comes along and gives you some real curry. I have a 4000 FE that I use for lighter spinning and a bit of bigger plastics work. Good reel so far. Plenty of drag and feels strong enough, but I'm not chasing 10kg fish wih it.

If you look around on the net, you could get one imported from the US for under $400 Aus. I saw an 8000FE go for $290 + about $55 postage. Not a bad reel for under $350.

    Good luck mate.

Would agree with Deepfried about the Seajigger.

I fish an Exceler 4000 on my seajigger 305 and think that a 6000 size reel would be too big.

5000 would be OK if you want greater line capacity.

It's only a 20lb line class rod and might be under too much pressure trying to muscle in 10kg fish close to the shore.

    Regards, Rob.

Thanks for the advices, guys. I also think 305 would be too skinny after ponder. Then, how about match with the hvy model seajigger 325 or em pro 962? Or any other good recommendation for a match?
I need a rod can blow 50-85 grammer a mile and have powerfull butt. And it have to be 9'f long at least cause by the edge i fishing is slopping. This combo is not serious for record making but just for medium-light fun fighting. I got LBG combo to handle those big daddies.

I honestly dont know anything about the seajigger 325. On paper it looks like it might be better but without picking one up i wouldnt like to say. I think all the models are over speced with lure weights though, i couldnt see the 305 tossing 100g or the 325 throwing 175g. Might be fine but have a look at one or talk to someone that has used one.

The emblem pro rod i think would handle rat kingies though but i couldnt be sure of that either. I nearly got one for LTs just recently but picked up a cheap saltiga 80tn. I may still get one down the track though. Other options may be a penn big game which is very cheap for the bang. I also looked at a dakau longtail h for LTs as well so maybe look into them also.

I wish i could be more of a help but i just havent caught any kingies from the rocks so dont really know what is needed.

I haven't used it yet as it's still in sydney. Should be up here in a week or so. I will let you know how it casts etc but there is nothing around ballina atm to put a bend in it.

    Hi Deep,

The Sustain is the way to go. Really good reels, hard working, long lasting and the drags hold up.

Just something in where they are made... I have talked to most importers of fishing reels and rods... They tell me that it doesnt matter somuch to where they are made these days, as they are all made using the same machines ect. I personaly think they are right, just cheaper people to push the buttons!

Let us know if you get it, and a report on the first fish you catch on it! Good luck!
    Cheers, Bandit
