    floatlining plastics

anyone tried floatlining plastics like gulps etc, no jighead, just shove a hook up it and float it out with no weight?

    just curious

    Re: floatlining plastics

I have found that the resistance of the braid coming off a small threadline keeps it very high in the water column. A pilly with a pea sinker on mono seems to sink pretty fast when freespooled off an overhead. I dont really understand why

I know this is the salt water thread but works well in the dams for barra with the 7" gulps just on a weedless hook. They sink quick enough in shallower water. You can get them to dart from side to side really well like an injured fish.

No reason you couldn't do it in salt if you had a slack tide and shallow water..

I've tried them on a paternoster as well.

What got me curious, was I saw a dollie swimming around, while I had a paternoster on. I pulled the sinker off, chucked on a 6/0 hook onto the sinker loop, and put on a gulp and chucked it in. It seemed to swim well, and in the clear water I could see it had ok action with a quick twitch every now and then. Dollie screamed over and had a look but turned its nose up at it and swam away... on a different day it probably would have inhaled it.

    Just got me thinking...

Re crabs - haven't been out after them lately, but I'll give it a serious go in early September again. Found some new ground as well that should be really good.

    cheers

    Mick
