    Brizzy River

This was supposed to be an offshore report but due to a late start we didn't get to Moreton till 10.15. The corner at Bulwer was like a washing machine but seeing as we hadn't been offshore in the rig yet, I slowed down and plodded on.

Waves were breaking over the banks to the North and the furuno had decided to kick in to a world map that I didn't know existed, showing some bloody towns in the middle of Pakistan! and try as I might, I couldn't get the right map to show so had no waypoints. The first use of it since it went in for a new socket at the rear 8 months ago. Should've tested it when I got it back...........I'll have to sort that tomorrow. Without any marks and the wind picking up we decided to turn round and headed for the 4 beacons. Nothing on the sounder and the wind had picked up more so headed for the Brizzy river.

All up we were motoring and buggering about with the plotter for 4 hrs before we dropped a line at a spot I'd sussed on a previous visit.

30 minutes without a touch and then 3 squire going 42, 44, and 51 in quick succession, all on ganged pilly. Another hour without a touch, so headed for nudgee...........really lumpy, swell sideways on, and a bugger to find home port without the plotter, but the rig behaved well.

Bit of a disaster really, thoroughly soaked, little time fishing, and a brain fart as far as the plotter goes, the only upside being 3 fish in half an hour.

Bloody amazing how one can lose touch with technology if not used for 8 months..............either that or I'm just a bit thick

will look at the plotter tomorrow and try and find out what's going on.

No pics. Good job I didn't take the camera............with my luck it'd probably show a swazhili menu

Unreal, mate I was just writing on yesterday I had a fish with pillies and couldn't get a touch, fished with plastics today and they were willing to play at the wharves ,you did well with a few quick fish . Its funny how they can turn it on all of a sudden and shut down just as quick. Cheers

    Thanks for the report Kev.
I was expecting to open your post and find you had been chasing those monster shovelnose again.
Yes mate i agree we do forget how this new age fancy gear works when not used regulary.
There's always next time and you did well to bag a few river squire for a feed.
    Cheers Brent.

I caught a small shovelnose yesterday and I thought of you Kev - funny that!
Well done mate, despite all the adversity you managed to persevere and come home with a feed.
I know you probably think it was a bit of a disasterous day but I'm sure it could've been worse mate and days like these make us appreciate the really good ones. Btw what's the new rig? The Whittley?

    Cheers,

Great to see you back out verminating, Kev (though in this case tablefaring!). Just the beginning of a new era with the rig...I'm sure the pearler sessions are just around the corner for you and the gang. What were you using for burley, and how much? Thanks for the report, and great to see you back on the horse.

Stacer 519 mate (actually 5.9m inclusing pod). Had to lose the Whittley as the drive was too steep and it was a bugger to get off the tow hitch. Gave it away after jumping on the fender of the fourby to unhook it, and went arse over tit falling onto the draw bar

Hi Cuzza, long time no read mate

Burley was pilly and prawn shells mashed. The odd mash with the masher every 10 minutes or so and a bucket of water slung in to wash bits out. Not enough movement in the water to do it naturally. Gonna drill a few more holes in the bucket so it's doesn't need mashing as often.

Nice, Kev. Pillies are great burley. Definitely need a few holes around the bucket, they sometimes get caught in them and other pieces can't get out.
