    Toorbul Area - Saturday 15th Aug 09

Took my son and his friend out today to troll for flathead in a new spot while it was low tide still, then chased some bream on the rising tide till high. Caught 3 flathead on the first 3 trolls - good start, but no real size (40cm ea). Moved to Toorbul to chase Bream - very slow until the last hour and half before high. No real size here either (27cm to 31cm for the bream). Oh well, ended up with a dozen nice bream to fillett - the kids had a ball! Smooth run home just before dark with a beautfiul sunset behind us. Caught all the bream on chicken gut using 2kg line. Cheers, Darren

Hey nico - was trolling some small hard body 'lively lures'. I just seem to be lucky I guess. I'm no expert on trolling but love to give anything a go. I seem to have a lot of luck with these lures every time I do give them a go - either the fish are desperate or they work. Great day out alright, even better when the kids a getting a few as well. Cheers, Darren

I fished bribie passage for the first time yesterday, fished near parrot island i think casting the banks for flathead while my girl was bait fishing, place was alive with small winter whiting, managed 4 small flathead but not a bream, moved to ningi creek for 1 more small flathead, was pretty disspointed but it was a nice day, im sure those banks produce good fish at times ..

Yes there are a lot of smallish flatties around at the moment, which is a good sign for the future! I fished top end of that passage for a few hours last week and only got two keepers, and about 10 undersize fish. Got 5 average bream as well.

Well done Fishbait, I bet the kids had a ball. I fished the passage last tuesday, ended up with 8 lizards. Only one decent one @62cm and the rest were 30-40cm. The 62 model was good fun on the 4lb line though.
    Cheers Grant.

well done Darren, a nice feed of fish there. Those small Lively Lures do work well on the bream, another you could try is the Tilsan Bass, they seem to get the larger (50 - 70cm) flathead in that area, as well as the Caboolture river. My Sis and Niece got some today from 45 - 65cm in the caboolture trolling, and one on a white 3" grub casting the flats when the CC 575 was grounded due to the low tide.

    Cheers

He he he - lol - Hey Greg - thats what I do intentionally soemtimes - get stuck in 1 and half foot of water, then wait for the high tide - the bream love it when its around 2 to 3 ft. Once it gets to 4ft on the high - the bream are gone.

Thanks to all for your kind replies. Cheers, Darren
