On Sunday I am heading to the Torres straits for two weeksmost of the time will be chewed up with work
but I will be finding some time for some fishing. Will be based on thursday for 6 nights and the rest of the time staying on outer Islands. Any inside info on spots to hit or charters to use would be mucho appreciated

Cool, Great trip, Fantastic fishing and you will meet some very interesting people. I used to live on Moa Island [central western group]. I still miss my mates from there, we used to fish, dive and hunt and had some great days on the water. The land based fishing is good. You can catch some monsters from the wharfs and watch the crocs on some islands, real big suckers. You will see what I mean when you are on the wharf at Horne and T.I. and the tide rips through. cheers
Hi Guys, Well I have got through the first week of my two week trip around the Torres Straits. Has been a whirl wind trip with lots of work and not to much fishing but I got to fish for Barra at dawn in a dam beside the airport in Boigu Island which is just 4 klms from the new guinea coast. There was Barra boofing up in the reeds but I just couldn't tempt them outI did get to go and have look at the Teachers pet,a 4plus meter croc that is kept in a pen just on the edge of the village and when the king tides come the pen gos right under water and the water goes up through the town and school.
Theres no take aways or restaurants so meals are sorted by the locals so we dined on mud crabs and t bones, you can buy big muddies here for $3 a go although turtle and dugong are the main diet.
Got to have a few cast off the jetty on Yam Island at day break only got one hit for no hook up then spent more time yarning with some local cray fisherman than fishing so will have have to get back to Yam and try again.
Sunday Morning after a night of BBQed lobster and many beerswe were picked up by one of the guys we are working with and went for a look see at the local sights from the water in his Cruise craft 580 and then we were having a bit of a troll when we spotted some birds woking. We pulled in the mack lures and tied on a couple of slugs and headed towards the birds.
Third cast and I am on and the line is peeling off the little phflugger like there is no tomorrow so I tighten up the drag and put a nice queenie in the boat after a good fight. Over the next hour and a bit four of us boat 4 or 5 fish a peice and lose just as many using just two rods. Lost a good sized fish to a 32lb snap swivle straightning out.

The middle jetty on TI will blow your mind. You just can't fish on it during business hours. Use lures and watch the monsters chase them back to you.
Did you make namus out of your white fish? Do it Island style with a cold one..Me thinks I will go for a fish off the jetty soon
No we threw whitefish back as the guy we went with had a swag of fish at home and we were heading to the outer easten islands the next day.
My extended family Uncle used to cut the fins off the whitefish and bleed it. Then when we got home he would fillet it and cut it into fine strip. He had a big glass jar and would squeee in 3 or 4 lemons[no seeds] a bottle of white vinegar Then add a big chopped onion and 3 smashed cloves of garlic and 6 smashed birdseye chillies and 3 table spoons of soya sauce. Then add about a third of the fish and give it a shake and add another third , then the last third.Then with the lid still on store in the fridge for a couple of hour until it turn white [pickeled by maranating] ,, You can add other veges if you like, capicum, cucumber etc... Thanks for the info have found some wonderfull tastes up in these parts, cant wait for my next up in these parts in a couple of weeks
