Where to Fish off Tannum Sands ????

    G'day People
Heading up to lake awoonga in early Oct. & just wonderin if there is a reasonable fishing ground out from Tannum Sands
I have a 475 hornet trophy with chart plotter & marine charts to suit the area but being an open boat will be very wind dependant . So hopefully there will be an area not too far away to have a crack at some saltwater fishing !!
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers AL.

In and around facing island is alright fun for little reef species but just watch out for the rocks. Might not be too bad of an idea to take the crab pots, should be some nice muddys firin up in the creeks. Safe trip and hope this helps.

    Cheers Don

you can try around rat, out the front of curtis and facing islands, even out at jenny lind banks or seal rocks, all of these places will be found on your gps maps and are weather dependant. if you can find 'rich rocks' in the harbour i definatly say you you will pick up a few cod but it can run real hard there, but dont be afraid of using a big lead to hold the bottom. hope this helps

    Thanks Fisho
As I said any help is much appreciated !! Is Rich Rocks marked on gps charts ??
Last year when I went up there I was fortunate enough for a couple of members to send me some gps points ,but due to the wind never got to fish them
Unfortunately the paper I wrote these down on is nowhere to be found

S 23.49.915 E151.16.546 should put you right ontop of rich rocks, nothing to worry about hitting either as they are 4mtrs under at low tide. but if your leaving from boyne river then there are plenty of spots to try before you get there, just out from the last boyne river channel markers is a lot of rubble that goes for miles so i would try drifting around there for some flattie's, lots of little grassies and parrot fish also hang around there just for a little bit of fun, may even pick up a legal one. the south tip of facing (gatcombe head) isnt far away either and is worth a shot.
    cheers

Not much to add to the good advice above, but try around the rocks out from the ramp and out towards the mouth of the Boyne - I've had a good time on Queenies and Trevally on top and small -medium reefies on the bottom through there.

Also, fishing the bridges at South Trees Inlet have produced all sorts of estuary fish for me in the past.

Mostly on small plastics with a lot of action (herring profile) and light spin gear.

    Cheers and good fishing,

    Tinlegs

Have a look/sound around 151.29.000 23 57.500 seal rocks, 151.31.399 23.55.973 jenny lind bank, 151.38.642 23.53.228 wreck of nautilus or if you want to venture out further try rock cod shoals. Its a big area try around 151.36.800 23.41.200. Start sounding around long before you get there and long after you are past it. if the weather is good there should be boats eveywhere. RCS varies from 20 foot and really coral reefy to rubly country. usually you can be guaranteed of a feed even if it is only tuskies grassies and flag. Can get some nice fish there at times.
nearly the whole way around the front of facing will give fish. November to march usually estuary cod come in . Try pulling shallow diving lure over rocky reef patches.
    good hunting

    G'day Newby ,
When you say the harbour ! , I presume you mean the Gladstone harbour ??
We did launch at the boatramp next to the boatyard at the marina last year & when heading back in I trolled a lure short out the back & got hit big time just comming in through the entrance to the marina but unfortunately got busted off
So we'll definately give that another try !!
    Cheers AL
