Nice work Jim, Though of a name for it yet? I see you have parts from the Pixy, Alphas, and Steez .. plus a few more internally no doubt. Don't suppose you have any tips for painting a Zaion body Gekkabijin do you?
Thanks
Matt
Some of you may have seen this elsewhere but here’s some pics of a custom reel I built.
As pictured it has been made entirely of brand new - 100% genuine Daiwa parts.

Jim, McGyver would be proud, except his reel would have fold out braidcutters and built in fishfinder made out of a casio watch!!
Seriously, looks like a brilliant reel. Quite well balanced and cosmetically pleasing look too. Well done mate. Hope it performs as good as it looks.....dare say it will!!
cheers Steve

is it for sale?
(when Im dead) my biggest FEAR is that my wife will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.........
how much did it cost to mke this reel? im sure you did it just for kicks, but is it more cost efficient to make one like this.... looks awesome and i want one!!!
I support catch and release fishing, Keeping the natives native
Nice looking reel mate.
I have been toying with the idea of morphing my alphas 103, alphas r and an ito into a custom reel, but you beat me to it.
Nice work.
Cheers
Lee
looks verry impressive.seems you've done a lot of hard yards for parts?i'v done a couple of abu reels and found it hard to source the aftermarket parts is there a place that specialises in aftermarket reel parts that you know of ....peter
Everyone has a price mate.... but I doubt anyone else will see the value in it.
Bit like guys that build hot rod cars. Not everyone else will see the same value in it as the guy who built it.
Cost to build in the original daiwa form (first set of pics) including purchasing the 2x brand new donor reels and brand new parts (and shipping) is approx- $1300aud . The orange Zpi spool alone is nearly $400Aud. Taking the total cost to over $1600 aud.
Yes I almost have a complete alphas, and a heap of other spare parts but the idea was to get the pixy exactly how I wanted it. Maybe one day I’ll get around to doing something with all the spares and leftover parts I have.
All the genuine Daiwa parts came from PLAT or Japan Tackle. Japan tackle have a heap of abus parts although they are currently out of stock of a lot of them. I have a big order of abu parts on back order with them…
