    Re: Green Zone Warnings

just a bit more fuel to the fire here fellas,
fished hayes inlet this morning up to the start of the green zone(poo pipe) and there was 2 blokes up there dragging a bait net well north of the pipe up the length of a little snake drain they then came out of there on the low tide only to proceed in their tinny further up stream , got out on the sand bank and commenced dragging for another 100 meters or so up stream.
when i got back to the ramp the dept of fisheries patrol were loading their boat and i went over and informed them that they were still up there and dragging, they told me that they were just at scotts point hunting people off the green zone there and that would not unload the boat(tinny) because they had places to go and people to see and that it was really the epa's problem .
with this attitude it seems that if they feel like it they may take action but otherwise stiff shit mate, ironic that they have stickers on the side of the tinny saying REPORT ANY ILEGAL ACTIVITY.
is it worth writing a letter or should i adopt their attitude and let someone else do it??????
    cheers swano

    Re: Green Zone Warnings

its only a half arsed attempt at green zones, to keep the greens happy i guess, ive never seen them being policed but have been checked by water police plenty of times. people will continue fishing in them because of this until they decide to pump the dollars in and put proper promotion and enforcement
    in place.

    Re: Green Zone Warnings

Got a reply today from Chris Miller and found it to be a pretty good result to this point. Have added a copy of that response

I had previously got a response from the local council passing the buck to Marine Parks or even Geoff Wilson MP.

    Dear Chris
I refer to your recent correspondence about the Moreton Bay Marine Park. As this is an operational matter it will be referred to the Regional Manager for response. Once the matter has been investigated, you will be contacted accordingly.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us over this matter.
    Kind regards,

    Re: Green Zone Warnings

I just received a reply from the department. Attached is a copy less the map.

Thank you for your recent comment/complaint made on the Departments website regarding the Green Zone at Woody Point in Moreton Bay Marine Park and lack of signs.
Feedback from Marine Park users such as yourself on matters of this nature is very important to us, and something that we highly value.
To date, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) has installed 143 boundary marker signs and buoys in the Marine Park to assist users to identify the boundaries of new Green Zones and designated areas. Additionally, new signs with maps of the park zoning have also been installed at 68 public boat ramps in South East Queensland. We are certainly committed to making every reasonable effort to assist boaties and fishers understand the new zoning arrangements and identify zone boundaries. These signs and the Parks User Guide, which is available free from most fishing/boating outlets, provide detailed information to assist Marine Park users and have generally been well received by the public.
In relation to the Green Zone located at Woody Point/Scotts Point at Redcliffe, QPWS has installed 8 boundary marker signs/buoys and one boat ramp sign, to assist users of the area to identify the zone. The locations of these existing signs and buoys are shown on the attached map I have prepared for your information.
Following receipt of your complaint, Rangers have inspected the area, with particular reference to the problem areas you have identified. Rangers agree with your suggestion that additional signs at this location would provide further assistance to park users in identifying the Green Zone, and are presently putting together a plan to install several additional land based signs and footpath stencils along routes that lead to the Green Zone. QPWS staff will liaise with the local Council to ensure that such signs are appropriate for the area prior to them being installed. While this zone is not particularly large, its interface with a popular recreational area and proximity to residential development means that the installation of a larger number of signs than would normally be contemplated is something that we are happy to do.
So, I thank you for bringing this matter to our attention, and hope our response is of assistance. If you have any further questions, please give me a call on the number below.

    Regards,
    Miles

I am quite happy with this response and shall check it out once they get the extra signage done.

    Cheers
    Chris

I agree, excellent response. Wish I could get similar when dealing with DERM.
