Came home yesterday from a two week stint based at Orchid Beach. First 4 days and the last few were scarce fishing but in between was great. Tailor 40-45 cms, in gutters 3 kms. north of Waddy Pt. in front of the Marloo Camp Ground (also some jew caught at night after 10.00 pm but undersize). Similar tailor at Dundeburra and just south of there (bit finicky with the bite). Numbers were better north of Waddy. Beach was good except Pyongun (sure I spelt that wrong)Rocks (easy to use the back track). Yidney is passable at low tide but the back track is ok. It's soft on the south side of Indian Heads and the bit before the planks at Middle Rocks. Saw some cars do some pretty stupid things there. The guys staying opposite us had some good days offshore. With no GPS marks, they came back from their first day out with a 8.5 kg. snapper and an icebox half full of good parrot and hussar. Five lines were down and four bust offs when the snapper came up. In their excitement, no one hit the MOB on the GPS. They never got back on the spot and were only out 5-6 kms. Two trips to the edge of the shelf produced some nice pearlies and a few good rosy jobfish. Some of the pro's came back from 225 metre depths with barcod up to 25 kgs. when the weather will let them get out there. Heavy duty gear for that sought of fishing.
Greyfox,
Great report mate thanks.
Going up for the annual trip with the boys in Oct. Good to hear the tailor are starting.
Did you or has anyone noticed if there is any of that dreaded fireweed up there at this stage, it really can bugger up a good trip.
Thanks again
Cheers
Knuckle
