    Connecting DSC to Chartplotter

I have just had installed a northstar / navman VHF radio with DSC. I have been informed that I will need a technitian to connect dsc to my Gamin 520 chartplotter. Does anyone know who does this or is itr possible to DYI?

You can do it yourself BUT you need the MMSI number to get it working.
Have you got the manuals for both units??

    Cheers then

Connect all your power cables as per instructions
and connect the Blue data cable from
Garmin to the Yellow cable on the Navman
Then turn on the Comms (NMEA 1 out) in the Garmin

    Re: Connecting DSC to Chartplotter

Well asked sporty1....I am about to try exactly the same connecting a Navman GPS 538 to a Cobra DSC Radio....maybe John Buoy will be kind enough to tell me also. I am awaiting my MMSI also applied for last week. Continuing coincidence...!

The question is who will be listening when we press the auto distress button which immediately transmits our Mayday with Lat/Long on ch 70..? Potentially a far superior outcome to an EPIRB although an EPIRB does keep broadcasting after the ship has gone down (so to speak)...whereas presumably the radio went down with the ship..?

On the Cobras the GPS interface cable has a red wire and a black wire.
    Connect the following

Cobra "Red" to the Navman "Yellow" data cable

Cobra "Black" to the Navman Blue/Shield cables

Make sure to turn on the comms Nmea1 on the Navman
