    Transducer Installation/Selection

I have just recently purchased a Furuno FCV 295, and am confused and undecided on a few issues, firstly I am definately looking at a 2Kw transducer, but the frequency is something I'm undecided on, Do I go 50/200khz, or should I consider the other frequencies available, like 68, 82,88,107 or 150khz. This Unit will accomidate any of these frequencies. I am leaning towards the 50/200khz frequency, or a new adujstable 68 to 107khz tranny. I am fishing bottom dwelling species, in depths of around 100 - 800m deep.

Aslo mounting the trandsucer, since I'm after a 2kw tranny, the range is limited, there is no transom mount type, and i definately dont really wanna go a shoot thru type tranny, so my only option is to probably use a thru hull type tranny. I know location of tranny is critical, but I was wondering if someone has photos, or descriptive information on how to install a thru type tranny, on a 22 deg deadrise mon hull, I dont want to use a fairing block as my rig is a trailable. I have spoken to a few people in regards to this, and some a reccomending mounting the transducer face, flush with the bottom of the hull. Can anyone recomend someone to glass in my tranny, who has some experience with transducer locations and requirements.

All comments, leads and ideas, especially photos of installed thru hull trannys would be greatlyappreciated.

    Thanks

    Re: Transducer Installation/Selection

I have the FCV 295 with a 50/200 1T transducer. My boat is alloy so I had to mount mine on the transom. If you want a 2kw transducer the book that comes with the unit will give you the transducer best suited to that unit from 1kw through tot eh 3kw. You will have trouble mounting a 2kw transducer into a hull that has a 22 degree dead rise with out needing heaps of fairing around it to make the transducer more hydrodynamic. I take it you haven’t seen a 2kw transducer, they are huge and I would say you may even hesitate at fitting into the bottom of your hull. I would say use a fairing block and modify your trailer, much easier that way mate.
