    Grip Damage Options

First trip out for my new live fibre rod and the rod holder has damaged the grip, I am very fussy with my fishing gear and like to try and keep it all as perfect as i can ( My family thinks i may suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder ) Anyway i just wondering what my options are to fix the grip, I was thinking of wrapping the grips with tennis racket grip tape.

Anyone else have any better ideas ??

    Re: Grip Damage Options

That’s the problem using EVA for grips; it shrinks, marks, and scuffs very easy. You can leave it out in the sun for a few hours and see if it comes out, it won’t return to its normal size or shape but it may just expand enough. You can also try to lightly sand the grip with 120 grit, which will get rid of the marks. Make sure when sanding to sand around the whole grip and not just in that immediate area or you will get a flat spot. To avoid this in the future you can buy a roll of cricket bat handles grip in any colour, just roll it on and problem solved.

What about some of that heatshrink grip stuff.

Can get it from the Rodworks.

Cover it with fish scales and use the rod as it was designed to be used. If you want artwork buy a painting and hang it on the wall.

Either do what Stuart or Dave suggest or make a feature out of it and make a couple of grooves all the way around or make a wider single groove around it and call it a design feature.
Don't any notice of the other option from Jack.

Oh, put some inserts in your rodholders as well

    Thanks for the ideas guy's

I used a green scourer pad with water and lightly rubbed the rear grip and it has removed the damage, the only problem now is there is a tiny piece of foam missing from the foregrip which i noticed just after i got the rod home after purchasing it.The tiny piece missing has left a fairly deep little hole which i wont be able to rub out with the scourer.I might sell the rod as i have got my eye on a new Daiwa Grandwave rod which features a hard plastic "slick butt" so it wont get damaged like the Eva foam rear grip.

So if anyone is interested in a 10-15kg live fibre rod thats only been used once check the For Sale section
