SEA MASTER BATTERY are they any good
Its that time again, time for a new battery.
I've been given a quote of $150 for a 600cca Sea Master .
New but only six months warranty. [ Is this common ]
Q: Are they any good?.
This battery is to start an older 75hp mercury run nav lights and a fish finder.
Tried to research to no aval.
Any advice would be good.
Also any reconmendations on were to buy a fair battery at a fair price.
Im based at Palm Beach Gold Coast.

Re: SEA MASTER BATTERY are they any good
i'm not sure aboout batteries you have in australia, but here in the states the majority of them all come out of the same Exide factory, and they put lables of the various outlet brands on them, depending an where you buy them. they're all essentially the same battery, dependant of course on the grade being an economy model, with a shorter warrenty, or a delux model, with a longer warranty.
choose you battery based on the cold cranking amps needed by your motor. that should be in the manual.
i used to choose my battery based on the cheapest i could find ( shorter warranty), now that i'm lucky enough to have a few more bucks i buy the best i can find (longer warranty).
they sell "blems" here, they're cheaper, which may be only cosmetic flaws, or they may be ones that went dead that were returned under warranty.
i don't know if $150 aussie is a good deal or not, i don't know the conversion or taxes you pay, but i can get a good marine battery here for well under $150, u.s. dollars.
hope this helps...

Re: SEA MASTER BATTERY are they any good
I had a seamaster that lasted 8 years. after having it for originally 4 years, we decided it was time for a new one, and got a century battery, that lasted about 14-15months, so in the meantime, we put the priginal seamaster back in, and after been stored for that time we got another 4 years use out of it until it finally dumped a cell, so, we went out and got another to replace it.
Our runs a 60hp 4str yammie, sounder, radio, nav lights regularly with a few ancillary devices I may use on the water from time to time. We got a 660CCA for about $180 about 12months ago now.

Gday Swampman62,
I have two Seamaster Gold 720 cca, they work brilliantly. I would strongly suggest going for this size if you are using it in a single battery installation.
Ring around - the prices can vary significantly.

Good battery - had the same one for 5 years as a single battery - starting, running lights etc etc with no probs. Gave it away this year when upgraded to a dual battery system and got another 2 seamasters. Each to their own though. Price looks alright for what I paid for mine as well. Cheers, Darren

Re: SEA MASTER BATTERY are they any good
On the warranty thing I was informed the government legislated to force the manufacturers to give full replacement battery with warranty starting anew....hence the warranty on battery's reflect precisely the manufacturers trust in their products ie to make the profit expected each year.
Still it's a good price I think.
cheers fnq
