So is weed or cabbage the go for these critters.
I was under the impression that cabbage was the gun bait.
I have not given black-fish a try , but might have a go next time I'm down the Clarence.

weed in the estuarine environment, cabbage off the ocean rocks.....both near the entrances to the rivers, breakwalls etc. They can be very picky on the day....sometimes they like the real fine stringy stuff, other days the flatter cabbagy weed, then there is the brown weed. on dusk when the light gets a bit ordinary....a small live yabby is deadly, as is a small live prawn/shrimp. The emphaisi is on small as they have a very small mouth compared to body size....though in the Clarence if you are a bit further up stream near the fish co-ops......cooked prawn heads are absolutely the number one bait for BIG luderick.

Just thaught about an interesting point.

I wonder how we stand harvesting weed in the wild in queensland considering all plant life growing below the high tide line is suposed to be protected

I hadn't thaught about this in the past.

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.

yeah it is technically illegal lol and so is the transport of marine weed, for eg you cant collect weed in one place and use it in another

Last time I looked, the Clarence was in NSW, where it is NOT illegal, and most bait shops in those areas actually sell the stuff.

I think the reasoning in NSW is that it is not classified as a plant, rather an algae, and the places that it is usually harvested from are not threatened environments, in fact many areas if it wasnt harvested from there it would just rot and stink the place out, bearing in mind where this stuff grows in abundance.
