Dunno about growing weed, but a bit of bread burley and a bit of white bread squashed on the hook like pudding is dynamite bait. We used to murder them using it.

I own a wholesale nursery but am no expert on aquatic plants but i rekon you could do it. I would start by checking the water temp where it grows then do an EC ( nutrient ) and Ph test as well to get an idea of the natural conditions it grows in including water depth. Aquariums have a heap of tests that can be done to determine nitrogen levels etc so i would take a sample of the water to them. If you can match these you have most of the problem solved. Next work out what time of year it grows best and match the day length with grow lights ie if it is mainly around in winter it would require lights on for the same time as a winter day and possibly a cover to darken the tank if needed. I would then get some weed from your normal gathering spots with as much base or root ? system as possible on them for your parent plants. I am guessing that it may be hard to propagate or get them to multiply so you may need to keep introducing new weed bases. A saltwater aquarium specialist would be able to help. These are just a guess to get you started but there is not much that cant be grown outside its natural habitat.

    Hey Scott!

    Is your mobile switched off?

As to growing weed...... are you serious? Marine fish tanks are difficult and expensive to maintain. Not worth the effort IMHO.

    As stated above.
A bit of bread soaked in sea water and a little tuna oil, then formed into a dough is the best bait that I have found for Luderick.
My grandfather taught me that old trick.
Try it and see how it goes for your catch.
If it doesn't give you success, revert back.

    Cheers, Jason.

Sorry Rob i have to disagree with that. If your not keeping fish in the tank and only using it for growing weed the water quality is no where near as important as it needs to be with fish. The stuff grows in festy cane drains. Also if you have been fishing beside a guy with green weed and your using cabbage it soon becomes obvious what they prefer. That happened to me last time i was down at Woody Hd, thankfully the guy next to me gave me a handfull and i started to get in on the action as well. If you have a spare tank why not give it a go.

Maybe ask NSW fisheries to build a tank for you?

That might make you a very popular person during luderick season when people are having trouble finding some. Ever thought of growing it to sell to tackle shops.
