    Cool Shimano Deluxe-Refurbish

Hello all, Im going to refurbish my dads 8 foot shimano deluxe 3-8kg rod. im going to leave the grips and reel seat on and redo the rest of the rod.

Im going to use either 'Alps low profile general purpose' or ' Fuji general purpose hardloy' guides. (whichever my dad likes best)

Gudebrod royal blue thread... Whats the best value thread preserver/finish and rod varnish to use for a first time go.

I use Chromaseal CP and threadmaster finish.
You might get a dozen answers to this question and they could all be right.
Whatever finish you choose, you have to get used to how it goes on and work accordingly.
I have issues with threadmaster light in terms of levelling, but I love the standard stuff.
Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the light, just that I haven't got my head around it.
I don't like speed or erskine epoxy, but the erskine CP is OK if that's all you can get.
If you don't need CP then don't use it.
    Cheers,
    Owen

    Good answer Owen.

    Breamboss01,

Everyone has their specific likes and dislikes of products.

I tend to not use CP.

I only use Flex-Coat light and High Build epoxy. I have it sorted now thanks to Stui and ' flaming ' it off.

I do not have and never will have a product in my arsenal with the word " varnish " on it.

you will get more answers here soon.

    Cheers Phill

Be very careful if you don't use color preserver. When you put the epoxy on it can change the color dramatically or in some metallics can make them turn transparent.
