    Mercury Voltage regulator Burn Out

Now after my submersion of my 75hp Mercury one week ago, I have run the motor every day, yesterday run it in the Dam for 1/2 hour Full noise, Take it in the ocean today and 2 kms from the coast the motor shut down, i smelt smoke and quickly disconnected the battery, The Voltage regulator had burnt the centre out of it, intern causing the harness to burn, I have heard this burnt out is common, without the submersion factor..Col

Re: Mercury Voltage regulator Burn Out

I had to replace the VR on my 30Hp merc......don't know the why... it was broken when it came to me........if you run them without battery connected...... certain death to your reg.

If you buy new it will cost you $200+.

I got one from the outboard wreckers for arround $100........ but the sell regularly...... the bloke at my merc dealer didn't even need to look up the price.

If there are poor connections to the battery, or wiring or the earthing of the reg is dodgy.....this could also bring death.

If you have the genuine manual, it will give you test procedures, to check the armiture and any prospective new reg.

    cheers
Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
