Re: patrol clutch
ROTFL.. All you will get sitting on the fence is a sore a$$.
From enquires I made you can't remove the gearbox from the bellhousing to make it eaier that way as the bolt are inside the bell housing [brilliant engineering by Nissan]. So if you haven't got a big body lift and big supension lift you suffer and rotate the box 90 degree the alternative to this is to buy a big hammer or take it to a gearbox/clutch specialit. From the pictures you should be able to work out if the bike jack will fit under after the box is rotated. If so you can do it yourself. No jack, mean with mates+BBQ and cold beer or pay to have it done. No need for fence sitting LOL my guess is you will have to pay up or get a cruiser.Goodluck and keep us posted.

Re: patrol clutch
I am a mechanic and dont know why any mechanic worth their salt would say its too hard. At the shop I worked at we worked on mine vehicles did them all the time( probable one every 2 weeks). its not that hard. we had a jig made up that goes in the jack and bolts to the gearbox mounts this makes it a lot easier to handle. Hardest bit is getting it back in as the engine tips forward when it has no box swinging off it. use another jack under the front of the engine to tip it back this also helps when removing. when removing it the section of the box that the starter goes in hits the floor of the car making it hard to get out it sounds a bit rough but if you hammer up the corner of the floor it wont hit and comes straight out for the sake of a dent in the floor that no one will see it saves a lot of stress.

Re: patrol clutch
bicko seriously if a mechanic takes a hammer to any part of a punters car when it can and does get done by many others without a hammer it's nothing higher than vandalism same as if some cretin did it just for fun while parked in the street, company cars/mine site I guess greys the water a bit but still it's for the cowboys.
Serously again this is exactly my learned experience so for 25 years now nothing at all ever on land or water of mine has ever been to a mechanic outside of forced regulated visits (except for a washing machine once). Upon purchase I need to fix all the service related deliberate and potential and problems as a result. The moment I buy new secondhand equpment, ie fan belts too tight and flogging aircon/alternator/waterpump/idler bearing out fast just to name a few things. frigging bolts done up super dumbo tight is another pet hate but I digress and am outside ot the thread now so better stop.
cheers fnq

Re: patrol clutch
I didnt take a hammer to his car, I along with other people who thought the same have just given him some advice to make the job easier. If he would rather wrestle a 200kg+ gearbox laying on his back thats the other option. I hardly think it is vandalism it is the floor of the car and if done carefuly isn't even noticable. maybe you could give some better advice with your 25 years of experience. Ive only done it 30+ times what would I know

Re: patrol clutch
No argueing, The bottom line is unless you have done 1 before. Then just pay the meezly amount for the machanic to do it. And tell him NO bashing!! It can come out with the correct twisting.
Or just buy a cruiser.......

Re: patrol clutch
Anyone tried an engine crane through the door with a sling ala HJ/FJ 45. The first cruiser that I bought you could unbolt the floor around the bell houing, sooo easy LOL.
