Its the details, those little details, that make the difference.
yamaha four stroke for sure..
I love my 2007 yammie 60 4 stroke but then I'd love any motor that got me out to the fishing grounds without any fuss.
But the sound of the yammie 4 strk starting up. Just like a BMW starting up
.
I believe if you think that you can get away with $200 for a yammie service you might be disappointed. Might be ok from an unauthorised service agent.
Any way good luck with your choice.... just have a nice big cushion under your backside as the 60 outwide will certainly foster a few piles.
hmmm seems the yamy is a very popular motor with a good rep thanks for the info guys really appreciate it!! will keep you informed as to my decition![]()
Not even worth debating, Yamaha all the way.
I have just been down this route and ordered the Yammie. A couple of things you should note. While the power increase is 20 HP the actual increase in power is a 50% upgrade. If the 40 goes, any 60 will have balls in this equation. The Yammie has long been regarded as the ducks nuts in this range although the new challengers from honda and zuke may change that. The Etec is a 2 pot and Evinrude promo mayerial does acknowledge that it does exhibit some vibration, typical of a 2 pot. Economy will be similar on this size boat. The 3 year maintanance free is a bit of a furphy, you still have to check the impellor, gearbox oil etc and you use a bucket load more oil over that period. I would go the 4 pot everytime, it has smoothness, reliability, a long very solid reputation in the commercial role and it is quiet. I haven't heard them side by side but would back the Yam in.
Don't forget there are too parts to the engine rating, the HP on the water and the weight on the trailer. Make sure that you check your compliance plate for both before buying and don't rely on hearsay and what you see others doing. It won't matter aone iota until you make an insurance claim, then you will be turned down flat.
as an etec owner I would buy the yammie . the 60 4 stroke yammie is one sweet motor I had one on a previous boat . as for the bull$hit of the huge amounts of oil that etecs use this is crap in the smaller sizes I have a three year old 90 and am on my fourth bottle of oil for 250 hours
IF IT CAN'T EAT A WHOLE PILLY I DON'T WANT IT
As good as the E-Tec is, i would never buy a second hand one, The fact that PPL dont get them look at for 3 yrs is a joke, Yamaha is my vote
Daz
I'm with you Daz, plenty of mates have had the etecs back to the shop for repairs, but funny enough not one service among them...
Go the 4 stroke any day....

Is the yamaha really the stand out of the 60 4 strokes? I got a merc 60 4 stroke for $1500 less than I was quoted for a yammie. I believe they are almost identical aren't they?
Jeremy
I've got a Yamaha F60 on a Bluefin Trooper 4.75. Great motor, no faults 150 hours. Does 50 - 55km/h depending on load.
I took it in for its second annual service last month at it hurt more than expected, didn't get any change from $600.
Matt
the yammie.
cheers fnq
Thankyou all again!
Went to Yamaha today and they took my motor as a deposit on the Yamaha F60. They also made sure it suited my boat. So i went with the yamaha!!!! They gave me an awsome trade in and will fit it cables the works at no charge! Very happy
no w i just have to wait a few weeks for my tax return to come back so i can go pick up the new motor......no fishing for a few weeks is going to kill me esp when those barra are on the chew.............
So cheers you all played a major part in my decision!
Rob.
Congrats Rob, should be a sweet motor, make sure you do a water test with them, engine height right, prop right, and so on
