did anyone else on the last full moon gone by experience strange behaviour in emperor and nanny country where large quanties of large trout came up with emperor together. i am not reffering to close reef shoals but real shoal country where a plough is needed. it would be way to early for spawn ing behaviour yet wouldnt it.

Nice catch. Don't you just love fishing in NQ and you just never know what your going to catch.
I went out three weekends ago off cairns and bagged out on trout in the morning. So went to chase big mouth or emperor and caught only 3 big mouth and another 6 trout out in 60+ metres of water (all let go). I had caught the odd one there, but usually more big mouth than trout. We thought it was pretty strange. Earlier in the year we caught a few Emperor with row in them, which was very strange, seeing I thought the spawned when trout spawned?

same here those trout were coming up out a jewie hole around 65 mtrs + . i have fished that spot many times in the last 2 years and never ever caught a trout.caught over a dozen this time.

Top effort Ozbee, nice haul..I'm getting itchy to fish, been put back onto shiftwork as a relief and it upset the fishing no end. Looking forward to a session in the deep...

Spoke to another guy yesterday and he said they went fishing the same weekend as me off port douglas and they were chasing big mouth and emperor in 65+ and they bagged out on trout at night time, and got very few of other species.
God knows what is going on at the moment then. Just have to enjoy it.

ha mate what a problem to have!!! Your making us southern qld'ers very jealous with all these tasty fish.
We managed A good trout out on our Red shoals about a month ago, but couldn't find any of his friends.
We are still finding trout very elusive At the moment, still struggling to get our baits past the red throats.
maybe the large trout are following the red throats and feeding off them. sure is plenty of them about .but gee those trout would want eyes in the back of there heads swimming in the open.
I am suprised with how quickly trout re-inhabit an area after the Pro's have moved off.
A month ago, the big pro boats with 4 dories were working one of our favourite reefs, and fished it bare, we couldn't pull a legal fish in 6hrs. 2 weeks ago headed back out to the same reef and managed to scrape up around 12 average trout in a morning.
So the trout obviously must move through the deep water to go from reef to reef.....
