    Remembering unread posts

    Hi hi captain

I have a big problem with this forum and its the only reason why I don't spend much time on here.

When I visit the forum I am greeted with lots of new/unread posts that I am very keen to read. The problem is that if I start reading one of those posts and I get called away from my computer, when I come back I find that the session/cookie has timed out and all those new/unread posts are now marked as read.

Pretty much all the other forums I visit and the forums I run don't have this problem. They will remember the unread posts for as long as I need.

So is there a way to fix this problem? Its really sh!!ting me to tears

    Thanks muchly
    Shane

Sorry, but can not get it to do it. Can you give me some more info. Are you having to log back in, or are you staying logged in?

    Hi Steve,

I'm staying logged in ok, that's no problem.

I'll see if I can make the problem clearer.
When I visit the forum there are new posts and threads. If I don't read them and I go away from my computer for an hour or so, when I come back and refresh the page(to see any extra new posts), the original new posts are no longer marked as unread.

dont press refresh just use the page that is open then once you have read the ones you are interested in then refresh.

If you click refresh, then it's you who is causing the problem.
Why would you want to refresh without reading what you want????

    Re: Remembering unread posts

I think you guys misunderstand what refresh means. To make it so you guys understand, forget I said refresh.

When I visit the forum there are new posts and threads. If I don't read them and I go away from my computer for an hour or so, when I come back and go into the salt water reports section for example, when I read the new posts in there and come out to the main forum, some of the other sections that had new posts are now marked as not having new posts.

    Re: Remembering unread posts

That is because they are not new in the last hour, since your previous visit. They will still show up as Unread, but not new, as they have been posted prior to your last visit.
