I`d go bull rout, just don`t get stung..... freshwaters answer to the saltwater stonefish and often found in the salt and brackish after rain etc. could be wrong but thats my bet at the moment.

without referring to any books, I would call it for a bullrout. They are a freshwater fish primarily, but do come into brackish and salt water. I also believe there is a saltwater sub species, but i thought they occurred much further north.

it was caught near the mouth of the river and there hasn't been any rain about for a while. I will look up a bullrout and see if it is the same. Thanks all

Having been stung with one when I was 10 in the big toe I can tell you that they are incredibly bad. My uncle who was a big man grabbed one and got stung in the thumb. He almost passed out with the pain on the way home. At Mt Crosby wier in Brisbane they have a sign up saying beware of the bull routs.

    Hi all
Bullroat for sure. Mate had one in a fish tank and it was a nasty little blighter even in there. Saw a young bloke after he had stood on one and never wish to see a young kid in pain like that again.
