Where do you plan on using it?

To my mind that would be the first thing to sort out.

A 3 4 or 5 hp outboard would be the simplist solution.

I still think a small outboard would be the way to go. No heavy batteries to lug or worry about charging. Dont forget you will also need a good quality charger to keep a deep cycle battery in good charge condition for thetimes you want to use it.

Check out 2.3 HP and up outboards. I have a no gear box (spin thru 360 degrees) 2.3hp two stroke motor on a 12 fter for the sort of things your talking about plus buzzing around the canals and its all, IMHO you would need.

I would look at getting a 5hp petrol motor as just said before you do need to maintain the deepcycle batteries more than outboard. A 54lb electric motor is only 0.5hp & it will find it hard to push you along back into current or running tide plus that size battery will die in about 30mins to hour at WOT with the electric plus also it will do it tough trying to push the half cab..
