One tip though, ciggie lighte plugs are crap. The first one I had on my spottie melted. Do yourself a favour and go buy one of those locking type ciggie plugs from your marine shop and fit it to the light before you use it. If you can, I would even consider using a different type of plug. I was thinking of using the 2 pin DC plugs (similar to the 240v plugs in your house) but was told that brass pins are crap in marine environemnt as the oxidise and become heaters! I am planning on testing the theory though. I currenty use them on my Waeco in the 4wd and they are briliant.
I will also put in a plug (!) for the 2-pin 12 volt plugs - we call them T-plugs as the pins are arranged in a "T" I have used them in my boats for over 20 years with no problem, - we even used them in our RVCP patrol boat in Melbourne, which was a 12 metre workboat permanently moored in the Yarra, with no corrosion to speak of. The pins are easy to clean with emery paper if there was any corrosion, and they have a large surface contact area to pass plenty of current without heating up. We were originally put onto them by the amateur radio group WICEN, whose operators we used to carry on board on the Red Cross Murray Marathon.

p.s. Important point when considering spotlights - get one with the narrowest pencil beam that you can find - a broad beam at night results in a lot of light scatter and refraction back into your eyes, reducing its effectiveness.

BIAS and other sell them, around 90 bucks. They are a brilliant white light and are the only ones that I have found that will penetrate rain and shine into the water rather than reflect off it.
    You wont be disappointed.

Edit for this link. Whitworths have them, they make a deck mounted spot also

Pete, thats what I use mate for up there, the boys notes re the plug are correct, Im on my second and looking at alternates, but the light itself is great, though I doubt it is totally water prof.
Make sure you have a spare something for the nite runs, just ask Daryl after the last trip, long way home at 6 knots if the spotty shites itself. Ive gone up and back on a Ledlenzer head lamp and a dolphin torch, now thats fun!!
