    Re: newbie to offshore fishing

G'day guys, thought I'd give u guys an update ... got out early sunday morning with one of my customers and after the forecast, was thinking I might try and head to a few spots that some of you guys suggested up around the cape... Got out into the bay and the further I went the bigger the swells seemed to be getting so being pretty inexperienced thought it might be a good idea just to stay in the bay so we decided to and have a look at the pearl channel and see if anythiing was happening as someone suggested to me that there has been some quality fish caught there lately. After reading the posts on sounders which was a great thread and I learnt alot, sounded around for a while and anchored up on what looked to be a good looking bottom near a drop off... After about an hour with only a big shovel nose coming to the boat I decided to up anchor and look around a bit more... started up put her into gear and she stalled... which has never happened before.. 6 times I started her and evertime i put into gear she stalled .. so next time I started up an and let idle for a couple of mins, was then able to get into gear without stalling and proceded to head straight home and book her in for a service. being the newbie that I am I gotta say was a bit of a nervous run back through the swell to spinnackers but apart from some very minor missing got back no worries. lol so there is my tale of woe... hope u guys had a much better day than me and got amongst em!!

    .

Sounds like a successful day! Knowledge gained, used, an experience had, and lived to fight another day. That's how people get experienced!

    Good on you!

    Cheers,
