Hmm they say that if you install these in the back of the boat it increases fuel economy I would like to see someone with measured improvements.
Im not sold on the look though

The Formulas are easily one of the driest monos I've even been on so I'm intrigued as to why you find yours so wet (the added weight I assume is the culprit?).
Is there much of a noise increase with the spray rail added?
No noise, and yes I believe it is weight related to a degree, remember edencrafts are double lay up hulls ,mine has 600lt of fuel and all the bells and whistles.no two boats are really the same and there isnt one 233 like mine so its hard to compare .
i just want people to be aware that you can always tweak and improve your set up ,dont just accept a factory install as being perfect.ive been tweaking this boat since it hit the water ,ive removed the anchor winch ,[replaced it with a lighter set up [30kg make a big difference],ive moved one battery aft from the cabin, and bought lighter batteries, and the spray rails have made this boat now ,after 180 hrs on her ,its nearly finished.
Hi OPTI. Amazing what you have done here.
I am iterested in what you did with the anchor set up. I am keen for a winch on the Seafarer Vag but am concerned about adding that kind of weight at the point.
Also did you have trouble with water hitting the back deck and did the strip stop this as well as the water over the bow? The vag will throw a bit on the back deck when conditions get rough enough so I am thinking about the strip to help here as well
Cheers Stu
Excellent stuff, and yep, I completely agree. The serious US guys with similar boats also constantly chase and tweek for best performance. What some of them spend on props frightens me!
Our boat too is also quite sensitive to trim and weight, and we're spending a lot of time redisigning and engineering it to make what we feel will be substantial improvements over the factory offering, then of course will come the fine tuning, much like you've been doing over the past year or so.
Your boat is beautiful, I look forward to seeing her on the water!
thanks stu ,the first winch i got was a stress free mighty free fall ,its the biggest winch they make ,it holds 200m of 8 mm spectra rope etc,it weighed 35kg winch alone,at the time of purchase i thought i could anchor on the 50,s if i wanted lol.but as you know we have to deal with a lot of current and anchoring off shore is pretty hard to get on your spot,i used it twice and gave up and have been drifting ever since .i also had a 15kg plow anchor and 10m of 8mm chain,so over 60 kg all up.
i pulled it out of the boat and the boat floated 3inches higher in the bow and rode a lot smoother and picked up 2 mph top end.
realising i still needed a anchor for broadwater duties ,i searched around for the lightest drum winch i could find ,i ended up with a muir df8 it weighs 14 kg winch alone it holds 80m of 8mm spectra and i swapped the anchor over to a 10kg claw and chopped the chain to 6m,the boat dropped about an inch in the bow with this set up ,last sunday was the first time i ran the boat with the winch and the spray rails, but all seem good .
to test the weight on your boat id get a couple of 10kg pool salt bags and put them in the anchor well and see if the boat likes it and go from there ,you wont get a drum winch set up under 30 kg.
as for the rear rails ,i think they would work but wouldnt look right ,the rails on the front look ok .they wouldnt stop a wave coming over at trolling speed,i still copped a couple of greenies trolling on sunday arvo when the wind was pushing 20 knts.you get the most benefit of the rails at planing speeds.
a mate of mine had a vagabond and it was a bit wet ,these rails on the bow would make a huge difference imop, same as they have on the 233.
Vags are pretty weight sensitive in the bow and the rear deck splash esp in a chop with a side wind can be a pain. The addition of foils on the motors and trim tabs, even if almost fully up, lifts the bum and this significantly reduces rear deck splash, or that was the case with mine.
Cheers

What could go wrong.......................
Thanks OPTI. I dont think the rails would need to go back, just run off the front similar to yours as water comes in when you hit a wave 1/4 on seems the worst. I am very careful about what goes in the cab on any boat.
We use to anchor in 250ft in the west for snapper. It was nothing to have 6 - 8 or more goes especialy if the wind was up.
Love to look at your boat in the flesh but its some distance from here.
Cheers an thanks. Stu
Opti, thoughts on jacking plates for your boat? Not suggesting you need them, but I know you're a guy like me who immerses himself in this stuff and am interested in your thoughts.
i think my rig is really too heavy to really get full advantage ,plus i dont have any room to mount the pumps ,etc ,if i had a bass boat i would have one ,we used to use them on ski racing boats but not on the offshore race boat.they work well on small light boats
i finally got a few running shot pics ,for those that are interested ,trailer boat did a test on my 233 last friday ,these pics shane from furuno took ,trailer boat are also making a video ,so will be good to see how it comes out.
we met up at peel island ,and went to amity point ,the bar was still closing out with 3 to 4m swell so we didnt cross, which was a shame ,we had been postponing the test for a month due to the weather ,i was running a full 600lt of fuel around 500lt onboard when these shots were done, just off amity point at the back of the bar.i wasnt driving crazy ,still sitting down ,luv the suspension seats
Cool stuff! Can't wait to see the video to watch the spray rails in action. I guess we will see the article in a couple of months time?
