I towed my 4.2 tinny to weipa from mackay last year.on the way home I hit a pot hole and broke a spring bending my axle and tearing apart 2 tyres. In my opinion springs in trailers always seem to rigid eg. jump on your mud guard and see how much it moves, probably non much if at all. after my mishap in weipa I started running a higher profile light truck tyre at about 25psi, I found it gives me the extra cusion that the spring doesnt have which makes travel a lot more gentle on boat and trailer.

We do a bi-annual trip from Victoria to King Ash bay in the NT. About 7600 kms round trip. (Did the 3800 kms on the way back in 41 hours! - 3 drivers rotating).

I always bump the tire pressures up to around 50 psi for the trip & have never had a tyre or bearing issue.

V8 petrol cruiser towing a Barcrusher 560 on a tandem, with lots of gear in it. Horrible fuel economy.

Bought a Quintrex 540 Bowrider in Brisbane, towed it to Canberra, two trips to Batemans Bay and one to Bermagui, all up about 2100 km so far to enjoy 160 km of boating LOL. Loaded and fuelled it comes in just under 1300Kg all up, tow it with a Subaru Outback 2.5i, average 16L/100Km @ 90-95Kmh.

Has light truck tyres fitted on a single axle Sea Link trailer, rides well (I have towed lots of bike trailers that were rough as) and I think this is helped by the larger diameter, as it has been my experience that smaller wheels "fall"further into potholes and have a steeper approach ramp on raised obstacles.
