    Hey all.
I am heading to Normanton for a few days this month and have one day spare to explore / fish the surrounding area....
Has anyone any hints or pass on contacts for any good local charter operators up there that could put us into some fish.... Even if your a local,,, Have you a spare spot for 2 people, we can bring our own gear.....

    Cheers ...

    Hi Adam,

Try Kerry D in Karumba for a charter.

    Hi Adam,

If you are in Normanton for a few days you can always do the charter on your day off and then on the other days just go down to the river of an evening and fish off the old bridge. Torch and net are a definite advantage if you do hook up and have to try to get it up to the bank.

    Cheers,

    Adam,

Check out the Holiday units at Karumba, just opposite the Sunset Tavern.
My wife's aunty owns or at least used to own the units there.
She might be able to help you with a charter.
She organised one for us when we went up there. We caught heaps of fish.
Don't remember the name of the charter we went on.
Hopefully someone there can help you.

Paul from Kerry D Charters will look after you, mate! It's a quality charter operation.
He does half and full days, leaving from the boat ramp at Karumba Point.
We headed out with him in April, and had a ball!

    Hi Adam,
Was up there 3 weeks ago. Two main charter operator's, Kerry D and other. Went with other (more protection from weather). Both do same type of fishing. Went for half day charter $100.00. Be prepare to be fishing in 3 to 15 feet of water (if your lucky), the colour of soup. Suprisingly, catch a few nice sized salomn (2-5 kg), also the ever present catfish. Was told it was getting too cold for barra.
The barra breeding tourer is worth the money, just to hand feed the monster females they us for the breeding programmes.
There was a medium size croc lurking around the town jetty/pontoon, so fishing at night would be interesting.
The 'Animal Bar' at the local (next to town jetty) is interesting to say the least.
Finally, at Karumba Point try the fish and chip shop and/or the pub on sunset, beautiful.

    Regards Andrew
ps. The pub in Norminton (not the 'Purple' pub) down side street opposite the big croc, great place for a feed and drink.

Great that isn't it. Did you see the fish that took your fish, I couldn't and I tried three times as they are so quick

I was up there in 06 and hired a boat from out at sunset point. 4.5 tiller steer polycraft with a 40 yammy on the back. The guy dropped it in the water gave me bait and ice and fuel for the day all for $70. Great value way of checking out the area.

    Re: karumba

    Adam,
We had a camper and only just got into the town caravan park. The place was chokers 3-4 weeks ago. Best to book inadvance.
There's many things to do, fishing, then 'fishing', then there's ''fishing''. That is all people go there for.
    Norminton is about 75k's south.
    Regards Andrew

    Re: karumba

We stayed at the Sunset Caravan Park at the point while up there in April.
Fished off the beach to the left of ramp (just as the beach becomes rocks) at night time, and caught good barra!
They were caught on both hard-bodies, and soft plastics.
    Good spot to try!
