TLDS have been in production since the late 80s and not much has changed in their basic format.Basic strong lever drag overheads .The old moto applys

I am 100% behind reidy.......SHIMANO all the way!!!
I have always used Shimano and have never had product failure.
If you look after your gear it should not fail anyway, but, have found that the shimano has always been faithful to me.

    Cheers, Jason.

    Re: shimano or okuma

I have an old Okuma (can't read the model any more) and it has been a great reel, looks just like the TLD15.

I also have a couple Okuma Threadline reels that have been severely abused and still keep going, I bought them for bream flathead and whiting when I was on the gold coast, but since moving to Townsville they have been spooled up with 30lb braid and have been catching plenty of the norths finest.

    Wouldn't hesitate buying an Okuma.

I also have a couple shimano reels which are great and have served me well.

Currently trying to decide on which reel to buy for bottom bashing, ABU, Pflueger, Diawa, Okuma, Shimano or Penn.......

As long as reels are looked after most will give goos service.

    Cheers Eamon

The TLD is pretty much indestructible with normal use. It weighs just over 24 oz compared to the titus at 35.5 oz. I certainly know which one I prefer

Shimano gear leaves the Okuma Gear for dead.

Shimano by a country mile, Okuma has a lot of downsides just ask anyone who works in a large turnover tackle shop !!

No brainer IMO opinion, Shimano over Okuma.

    Re: shimano or okuma

I agree with most so far, TLD25 would be my pick - perhaps a little biased as I don't own any Okuma gear - but I know the abuse that my TLD15 has copped and it would take a lot to convince me to change camps. They are as tough as nails. Not sure how the Okuma prices up, but with a TLD25 around $250 (seen them as low as $199 not long ago) I don't think you can go too far wrong.

    Hi All

I bought a Okuma titus 15 from BCF today, on special for $99. They had 15 , 20 and 30 models all for $99. Great value for a reel I will use as a back up when the family come along fishing.

    Re: shimano or okuma

After watching an Okuma overhead literally fall apart - totally cacked itself - on about 2Kg of fish, I am pleased with my decision to buy Shimano/Daiwa. No kidding, the Okie was in several pieces.

The Shimano and Daiwa gear just feels better. Seem to perform well, too. When I catch fish...

    Re: shimano or okuma

I use a Shimano TLD20 on a Gary Howard Sabre 7' off the back of my Jetski, gets hammered by Saltwater. Rince off at home, spray down with Inox and wipe down with a clean rag and she is as goods as new for the next session. Haven't used an Okuma overhead reel before and in saying that I have no plans to either.

    Re: shimano or okuma

I dont think this thread is open for any kind of logical discussion...

We are talking Ferrari V's Hyundai here...no comparison can be logically applied.

I have bought and owned my fair share of both brand reels and quite simply okuma is crappola. If any here can tell me they think its quality stuff they dont know tackle very well. Do the reels work??? Yes... Do they do it effectively??? its up to personal experience to answer that...but if you have used any decent gear you wont agree here...Will it last??? Mine havent...and im anal about how i look after my reels.

Shimano hands down across the entire range...
