    Fishing and Moon Phases

I just need some expert advice on Fishing and moon phases

So far i heard the best times to go offshore are towards to the full moon

as in 7-4 days b4 the full moon and for shallow waters it's towards the new moon

Any expert advice would be great

Also, from past experience the ruff days produce more fish than the flat out days

    Hi Timddo

This info is definitely not from an expert, I found this site on the net and have yet to make use of it, but it may help you with some useful information.

    http://www.fishingreminder.com/home.html#

The site uses a simple star system for fishing, more stars better fishing. Even suggested fishing times of the day too. You can set it up so it will sent out an email days in advance with best fishing times etc

I haven't tried out the "system", but ya never know.......hope the fish use the same info as the site does!!!!!!!!!!! good luck

This link was working till wednesday morning , let me check further and see what happened, I wouldn't have posted a site that wasn't going, sorry

Most of those little pocket guides you can buy at your local are based on moon phases(the old NZ maori fishing guides). They give you moon phases and peak times in relation to your goegraphical location.Cost under 10 bucks and a good ref.

Beach fishing for tailor I used to love the late afternoon rising tide with a full moon heading slowly upwards from the horizon.

Gives enough light to gang your pillies up; you can usually see well enough to tie a knot; not to mention taking a few fillets off before you head home.

Also a full moon is good on the optic nerve and makes for a nice back drop - especially on a balmy April evening when the temperature is just right and the fishing good.

In my experience, the fishing is best when you can get out. Moon overhead and an air pressure above 1018 helps aswell. The old saying around here is "you can't catch fish in a northwester". Was out on tuesday in one with the above conditions and thankfully the fish bit there heads off. Just get out there, there's not much that burley and livies won't fix.

    HI Out there

Your advice is the best about in the end.......... I have battled surgery on my foot and other problems and I have watched weather reports etc . Tonight I said to my daughter that the only way to catch fish is to have a fishing line in the water....

    Spot on the money
