Surely you realised the fish was lost. You could've returned it with directions to the south.

    Nice fish.

    Cheers.

Man that's awesome. I've been told several times that snaps are caught right out on the shelf, but never thought one would come in close. Maybe a batch of fry got caught up in some cold, north moving currents a few years a go or something? Or maybe they've always been here, but because they are a spooky fish compared to others they just miss out on our baits? who knows, but a truly spectacuar capture for Townsville, well done

Scott, you can imagine my surprise... I was yahooing and doing the highland jig. I was so sure it was a golden trevally until it hit the net.

And I can vouch for one thing: fingermark of the same size without any shadow of a doubt pull much harder than a snapper.

    Keep the comments coming fellas.

Yeah Ron told me you said that, and don't I know it, I spent a few years chasing big knobbies in NSW before I moved up here, we used to use 20lb, I come up here and am told nothing under 50lb for fingers of the same size!! Biggest knobby I've ever caught was just shy of 10kg cleaned, its a bit hard to judge for me though considering i was 15 when I caught that, but even though I'm much bigger now, the 6kg fingermark I caught early this year pulled much harder. Its a totally different fight between the 2 though. I would compare a snapper fight to being somewhat similar to what a big golden grunter does.

    Yep, I agree Scott,

Earlier on during the day, my deckie got slammed by a (presumed) fingermark while he was nodding off up the front of the boat. Nearly got pulled in and I'm lucky I didn't lose another rod/reel as well. I gave him a hand as it when around the anchor rope and I could tell it was big, powerful and on its way home and there wasn't much we could do about it. Big finger I reckon...

And thanks for reminding me what the weather was like on the w/e, meanwhile I'm buried in the outboard trying to sort out the thermostat and pulling the floor up to find my fuel leak, which i still haven't managed to find yet! Not that I've looked hard, but thinking about it, I'm pretty certain I know where its coming from.

That is a nice snapper, well done. Now seeing as though us Brisy guys sent that one up there, how about ya send a few big fingermark down this way....
