Update on the Scarbie Ramp. Looks like they are putting a pontoon in. One of those ones that is in the middle of the ramp. Making it a two lane ramp. Looks like it is going to a big one though, looking at the spacing of the Pylons they have put in. They have had a huge dredge and barge parked in there for a couple of weeks, not sure if it is for the ramp area, or the marina development. Also looks like they are changing the gradient of the ramp to make it a bit steeper. Maybe opening it up for larger trailer boats (with a bit of dredging).
Port announces plans for 130 new marina berths at Scarborough
6 August 2008
Queensland’s recreational boating industry will soon receive a boost following today’s announcement that Compass Marinas Australia Pty Ltd will construct and operate around 130 new marina berths at Scarborough Boat Harbour.
The Port of Brisbane Corporation, which manages Scarborough Boat Harbour, selected the successful proponent through a Request for Proposals (RFP) process, which began in late 2007.
The Corporation’s CEO Jeff Coleman said the landslide development by Brisbanebased company Compass Marinas Australia Pty Ltd, will include car parking, extensive landscaping and upgrade of a pedestrian pathway linking the marina development to the public boat ramp.
“Recreational boat ownership continues to soar in Queensland, and this
development will provide a much-needed increase in available marina space along our coastline,” Mr Coleman said.
In addition, the development also provides for an extension of public access along the marine foreshore to the parkland on the Spit.”
“This development is one of a series of improvements that the Corporation
commenced in 2005 to upgrade and expand Scarborough Boat Harbour.
“We believe the end result will meet the needs of both the local community and the thousands of international visitors who use Scarborough Boat Harbour each year.”
Compass Marinas Australia Pty Ltd, previously H4 Marinas’ Pty Ltd, is part of the Peter Harburg Group of companies, which has extensive property investments across Queensland.
“The group’s General Manager, Steve Zaphir, has been in the marine industry for over 20 years and has extensive experience in the development, construction and maintenance of recreational boat facilities across Queensland,” Mr Coleman said.
In addition to their property interests, the Harburg Group is also associated with the H4 Youth Foundation, a non-profit organisation specifically created for the purpose of assisting disadvantaged youth and improving their life-skills through boating.
The H4 Youth Foundation will also operate out of the marina.
Compass Marinas will construct around 130 marina berths at Scarborough with
associated secure pontoon access and services.
The $8.1 million development is expected to be operational in early 2009.
The proposed low-scale landside building development comprises:
A boat shed and marina administration facility for the H4 Youth Foundation
A retail kiosk and community building
Marina amenities including laundry facilities for boat owners and
