    Boat Ramp Closure - Scarborough

Just thought I would give everyone a 'heads up' on the boat ramp between the boat club and the caravan park at Scarbie. As of yesterday it is closed for 12 weeks for refurbishment of the ramp and lighting. Was a bit of a surprise as I hadnt noticed any signs warning of its intended closure. Any one intending to fish out of Scarbie Harbour will need to use the ramp on Thurect Parade near the Coast Guard.....still heaps of parking....and the Coast guard tend to keep an eye on the carpark as well (though they arent obliged to....just being good citizens). I wonder if it has anything to do with the new marina development (which was supposed to be finished mid 2009....a bit of digitus extractus required there methinks).

    Cheers

The closure of that ramp means the one at the Coast Guard is going to get awfully busy. I'm sure more cases of ramp rage will be on the cards.
Queens Birthday long weekend we launched at the coast guard ramp, but when we came back, the line up of boats to exit and enter the water was ridiculous, so we decided to check out the out one near the caravan park...gues what? it had a ridiculous amount of boats entering and exiting the water as well.
Going to be very interesting on good, calm weekends. Might be worthwhile taking a deck chair, esky, camera, and sit on the grass next to the ramp for some entertainment.
Never enough time or days in the week to go fishing.

    Thanks Greg.
It would be quicker to drive to Mooloolaba and go wide from there than wait at the Coast Guard ramp. It will get smashed even at 4am.

    thanks greg.
bryn, i certainly hope they dont put one like the pontoon at clontaff.
that has to be the most useless heap of sh... i have seen.
what a total waste of money.
was better without it, at least one still had both sides of ramp to use.
the bloke who designed that obviously has never been in a boat. a real wank...
Now i got that off my chest.

Re: Boat Ramp Closure - Scarborough

I have to admit one of my favourite passive pastimes is sitting at the coast guard ramp watching the antics when it is really busy.....especially when one of the charter boats want to pull up at the pontoon to let the punters off.

I tried to put this in the general section so that the fishos who dont read the boating thread could get a heads up......but it got moved and I got a warning for posting in the wrong forum.

    hi seahorse,

i understand some people don't like the floating pontoons, and Contarf isn't the best one i've used, but for me its a must and i hope more boat ramps end up with them to make it easier for me.

being a paraplegic and unable to walk, with a floating pontoon at the boat ramp i can transfer into the boat by myself when its up against the pontoon. due to the sides being level with my wheelchair.

my only gripe with the pontoons is that when you come back at night, they are packed with people casting net and fishing off them, and being tools and not moving when you come in to tie up the boat to get the trailer.

there is going to be a lot of work done at many boat ramps in the near future..some are being handed over to the local councils.

Wow you mean that i will some free entertainment when i do my next Midnight to Dawn radio watch over the the Coast Guard base lmao.. I get to see all sorts of things there at times. This will make it even more fun.
I for one also do try to keep an eye out on the carpark as best as i can. Being a boat owner myself does make me look out as often as possible to see that no one is doing anything that should not be.

    bryn.
    i agree with the pontoons.
the one at vict point and nudgee look great.
i wish every ramp had one.
i know the feelin, i got a young bloke in a wheel chair.
its just some are designed good other are a waste of time and money.
clontarf is that, but iam glad it helps u go fishing, and i guess at the end of the day thats all that counts.

    cheers

You are right Greg it is on the wrong side of the ramp. Why didn'y they run it on the other side 10M from the beach along the side wall. That way both sides of the ramp (the beaches could be used).

They obviously didn't watch how the ramp is used. Fundamental thing.

Just an update. They have ripped up the entire ramp, and this afternoon they moved an even bigger excavator in.
