hahahah 2.50.... yeah legal stuff is always cheap... except petrol, tobacco and alcohol......

i for got to mention earlier ..... im sure there is an attachment to fines for releasing exotic species (no one gets the max...) and that is costs of cleaning up your mess... this may run into millions...
and this is a GOOD THING....kill em and bury em.... or toss em to your dog.... dont release anything where it wasnt already a natural inhabitant...

friday night and im on here..... no life...lol

aaaaawhat an ignorant lot we are.It was the aquarium trade that stopped the legal importation of nile perch which most fishing organisations tried to get in.
The aqaurium tade has tried introduce this list for years to stop the wide spread importation and also have a definitive list of allowable spiecies.
People do not release fish that are worth more than your fishing tackle into the wild only mindless millionaires.
Tilapia have been found in wilderness areas of new guinea only accessable by helicopter and a severe trek to the lakes.
We had a german fish collector give a seminar in Australia years ago and the question was put to him (Who does the most damage to our waterways man or tilapia ?) Answer Man Just!!!
Tilapia are a food source in many countries. Our legisation prevents us from eating them Why?!!!
Why did tilapia spread so quick? Look in your own back yard.
This fish list has taken years to introduce because everytime government changed so did the political impact on the process. If it was introduced we would not have as many cichlid species as now. It Is only the new world species that pose any kind of threat.
If a new species of aquarium fish is listed an old one gets traded off.
There are many species of freshwater fish that are harmless which could be swapped but to do so you need to spend 50,000 in research to prove that they are harmless.(per species)
The freshwater guppy introduced by the CSIRO is probably the most dangerous fish introduced but because of it"s size least expected to be so.

THIS LIST IS A POSITIVE STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION IF YOU CAN SEE PAST YOUR NOSE!!!!!!!!

imo Graham (passionate fisherman ex Aquarium importer; breeder of tropical fish)
