Wet & Windy Iluka - AGAIN!

Just got back from my third trip to Iluka for this year - and I made it a hat-trick! Three weeks of huge seas, gale force winds and flooding rain. I think the weather gods see me coming. At least this time I got one perfect days fishing in on Tuesday before the wind, big swells and rain arrived. Even the 'nursery' at the Bluff, which produces big luderick in rough weather, was too dangerous to fish on several days.
The fishing was OK with plenty of bream around, although quite a few undersize fish amongst them. Mixed in with them was the odd trevally, small jew and plenty of wirrahs. There were lots of luderick in the usual places with quality fish in the nursery and smaller fish in the river. I released quite a few of the smallest luderick I've ever caught. I had a couple of sessions chasing flathead both in the river and at Shark Bay, and didn't catch a single one. A few sessions chasing tailor from the wall and the Bluff using lures and pillies produced only one fish of about 2 kg.
It was an enjoyable week but the drier will have to run for about three days to dry out all the clothes (and fishing towels when the missus isn't around).
One of these days I'll actually get a week of fine weather down there - one of these days!
Oh - and don't bother going out to the wall in a small car these days. Some of the potholes are now so large and deep you may never be seen again.

Looks and sounds alot like my recent holiday over stradbroke. Even the catch looks pretty much the same except for the black bream. It's not hard to have a good time regardless of the weather when yo are in a great location.

Aw man I feel for you, everytime I read your reports I hope that it'll have 'perfect weather' somewhere in it without saying 'I was wishing for...'
Had a pearler of a day last week on Tuesday, dived in the morning and the water was great, there were fish everywhere and the swell was manageable...3 days later, brown again!
Oh and harden up on the track, I'm still taking my little camry into the breakwall carpark.

Stonecold - I was thinking of renting myself out as a rainmaker, but I don't think anyoneon the east coast wants anymore rain.

Straddie - your dead right. A weeks fishing is great anywhere, anytime no matter what the weather. I love fishing rough water - must be the extra free radicals in the air or something.

Mattooty - the track has one good feature. It only allows the serious fisherman access to the wall
