    Shimano Calcutta TE200DC ???

Hello to the many experienced fishos out there. I have searched as much as I can and still cannot make up my mind on what baitcaster to buy, and would like the opinions of the learned.

I am just getting back into estuary fishing and am looking for a reel to match my old Jardine Jack for Barra and MJ's. I am looking for something that will hold together and have found in the past that you pay for quality.

The thing is I don't know if I am going too good with the above reel (i'd prefer to pay less of course). The big plus for me is the new braking system, as I am very rusty - to say the least - and have always thought the easier it is to use something, the more you tend to use it.

I still may only be using this 2 or 3 times a year, which makes the expense seem over the top, but at the same time, it means I will always be rusty and the braking feature, probably more of a selling point?

Sorry for the ramble, but does anyone have an opinion on this or maybe a recomendation?
    Cheers!

    Homer,

If you are only using the outfit every now and then, you shouldent be getting the 200DC... even though it might outlive you! I have one of there and I must say the digital cast control is great, and it is a very very smooth reel... but no, its not cheap.

A TE200 (not DC) will serve you well, It has me... and they are easy to cast also.

If you are happy with a low profile I would choose the Abu Garcia Revo Inshore... bloody beautiful reel for the money, and it will last a long time.

The Revo Inshore has a 24lb drag off it, it holds a fair amount of line and is one of my favs.

PM me if you need anymore help from me,
    Barrabandit.
    Cheers, Bandit

    No problem mate.

I own all of the reels I talked about... and they are all great so I really do hope you choose one of them.

    Good luck!

    Re: Shimano Calcutta TE200DC ???

I have owned a Calcutta TE250DC and sold the reel. I found it to be a very nice reel, however, not worth the price they are asking atm. I found no significant benefit in the digital cast control system as opposed to the Shimano VBS or Daiwa magforce systems. I have found my new Curado E5 very easy to use and can cast very nicely, as are the calcutta 200's. Most of the daiwa's with magforce will cast very well, i really enjoy using my CVZ and SW203 millionaires. Cannot comment on the revo inshore as i don't own and have never had the chance to use 1, YET.

Hi Homer ....... Aside from the price of the DC , I'm thinking the reel would be a little overkill for estuary lure casting anyway. There are many quality low profile baitcasters out there with magnetic cast control that will look after you .

    Regards

    Chris

PS ...... FYI The digital cast control doesn't stop all over runs / birdsnests

Thanks gentlemen, I suspected I was overcapitalizing.

I will look to some of your recomendations.

    Thanks again!

Edit: Went the Revo Inshore after reading the rave reviews and the great price in comparison to some of the others. $207 from ebay...can't beat that for value.
