Lures for Flathead

hi guys, Looking at restocking my soft plastics and hard bodies. i am looking at getting about 2 packets of 3in Gulp shrimp and a packet of 3in swimming mullet just wondering what colours should i get them in for fishing for flathead around coomera river and around southport sand flats??? also looking at getting 2 or 3 hard bodies just wondering what should i get to hunt the flatties??? was thinking about getting a manns strech 5+ but not sure...

For the 3" Berkley Gulp Shrimp colours have a look at the Banana Prawn, Molting and Bonejack. For the Swimming Mullet colours have a look at Pumpkinseed, these guys are awesome on a resin head over shallow flats.

Regards to HB's for chasing Flathead, as Marty+Jojo stated in the above post the Manns 5+ seem to be a very successful lure when targeting Lizards. Just have a look around in the store and see what you like the look of.

Have you any evidence, photos etc, of decent fish that you've caught using these methods you prescribe. Wouldn't want to give someone the wrong idea or impression now would we?? Are you an avid magazine/internet reader, or do you really know your stuff??

I have always done best with pink colored flatty plastics, but really those flatties will take anything that drifts past them. Pumpkinseed also good color for a variety of fish.

I've caught most of my PB Fatty on a Gulp 3"shrimp in new penny colour. As for hard bodies, for some reason Pink seems to be a good colour whatever the style and shape.

Mate, this is a fishing forum, not the Spanish Inquisition (couldn't resist the pun Heretic... ).

As it happens, I fish the Southport/Straddie flats for flattie and I have caught them on 3" mullet (cajun pepper), so that lure does work! Personally my favourite is the Atomic 3" shad in pumpkin disco or pearl pepper, with the powerbait 4" power minnow my second choice. And no, I don't have any photos, just bragging like everyone else!

5 inch gulp minnows, pumpkinseed, bigger minnow reduces smaller flatties caught.
pink micro mullet works awesome too. do you really need to see a pic of a flatty with a lure in its gob?????????

I might be a bit late here, but still like to put in my 2c...

I agree with the sentiments here, flatties will eat most lures at most times. But i believe that plastix will out fish most other lures at most times as well. My success on flatties revolves around using plastix that cover as much water as possible in a given session...The more fish that see you placcy the more fish you catch!

To this end, i use stickbait, minnow or jerk shad lures almost exclusively. In fact, for flatties i use them 100% of the time. The common denomenator here is a lure without any in-built action, obviously the jighead here provides the action. Basically i can work the lure super swift, it sinks fast with little water resistence and can generate alot of vibration/commotion.

If you havent used them for flatties give them a go. Try 3", 4" a 5" sizes for best results.

Not sure but have heard that Pig Lures seem to be the main catcher in the flathead classic..

thanks guys, with using hard bodies such as the manns stretch 5+ how would i use that? trolling? or normal jigging? also i am doing the slow retrieve (cast it, let it sink to the bottom, jig it up 2 twice, wind the slack, let it hit the bottom and repeat) is there any other ways i can try for flathead?? also looking at heading around the Coomera River tomorrow morning, i have tried most common place but is there any places that i should try to really hunt those big flatties??
