Hi All........ I am heading up to Port Douglas on Sunday to warm my old bones ....too cold here in NSW!!! I went last year too and had an unfortunate incident with a charter operator up there so I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a reef charter out of Port Douglas preferrably but also out of Cairns ... I would like to target trout etc
Blackout Sportsfishing out of Cairns. Kerry is the man up there !!! Ring ahead and put your name down and have a few days spare in case the weather is average.
Have had good trips on the Norseman out of Port - though it was many years ago - new boat since then - not sure if same owners/skipper
can't beat the aqua cat in cairns for mine - Toddy was selling up - but if he still runs it - you should not had a bad trip and he's always good for a bit of banter if he's on the wheel for the day as well.
I went on the Norseman just over a year ago and it was pathetic. All crew were rude, unhelpful and we didn't catch a fish. The only fish caught was by the deckies girlfriend with a bit of help from the deckie who spent more time cuddling his girlfriend than actually doing his job. The skipper kept moving every 10 to 15 mins which was just plain stupid. Just as we started to get bites he would up anchor and move. I was so P****d off when I returned to shore that I rang the skipper and gave him a mouthful.
Go to Cairns and go out with Blackout Sportsfishing.

I went out with Blackout - was brilliant except that the wind kept us from going out past the Fitzroy Island to the reef.
If the wind is up - next time I would look into going out on Aquacat I think it is called. 40-something footer that can still scoot out in the rougher stuff.
Book a seat early on Blackout - they only take 3 for reef trip. Like I said, will post a bit more of a report tomorrow (damn end of financial yr = work...lol)
