With the forecast being so good the folks got me on the blower on Saturday morning and we organised a quick trip out in the arvo off the sunny coast.
It was just the parents with me on this trip and it was agreed we’d stay in close and try and find some new spots and maybe visit some old favourites.
We were greeted with calm seas and not the 2m southerly swell that was forecast so it was looking very comfortable.
We jigged some livies and headed off to try and locate some structure. One particular area looked the goods so we dropped the pick and rigged up.
Things started a little slow and I decided to pop a slimy on and send him down.
For the next couple of hours we had bent rods and bruised guts from the monsters that were grabbing our baits. Most fish coming up were gold spots and I’m assuming the ones that were bricking us were just bigger ones.
Dad got a nice Maori and at the end of the session a few mack tuna came though which were good fun.
We moved off this patch and went over to another area in search for a couple of snapper. We thought the bite was going to be better with 2 small fish hitting the deck not long after we got there but it was to no avail. A few bigger fish were lost and a spangle, grassy and cod hit the deck.
We headed back in with smiles all round and some fish in the box. Was a great day out on the water.
Hope everyone got amongst them on the weekend.
Regards,
Craig.
