Or a Black Watch or similar. I remember heading out into a straight headsea in Ymer (34' Black Watch, Twin 270 Ivecos) and we were doing it tough doing about 14-16knots into a post cyclonic swell but we breezed past a 3400 KC Express with twin 250 Zukes as he was doing it super tough into them. Once you get to something like a 30' Black Watch or bigger I think the difference in performance, running cost, fishing room, accomodation and ride are where the monos start to overtake the big cats. Some of the prices of big outboard powered cats blow me away compared to what you could own in twin diesel shaft drive game boats. As an example on Ymer we regularly run 28Nm out at 18-19knots, troll all day and run home 28Nm for a total consumption without fail of 260 litres. Local days off Mooloolaba on the 50m line are 90 litre days. My 140 4 stroke will do 180 litre days trolling the shelf and 70-80 litre days in close. The big four bangers and then timesing that by two have got to use heaps more. I am a fan of littler trailerable cats though. You are still going to have the same mooring costs once you become non-trailerable.

the head on sea would have suited the 34' blackwatch more than the cat, but yes once you get into that size its a new ballgame, but we are talking 8-9m boats here. i'll take a 36' BW anyday or a 3000 KC !!!

Hey opti do you reckon a 233 would blow away a 3000KC ???? lol are you getting the new EC builder to build you one of the new Carbon Fibre reinforced 233's ??

carbon fibre, wtf.they are already too expensive, what would be the point of adding carbon fibre if your still using polyester resin and a chopper gun?and if they are going all out vynel ester carbon fibre and foam core what would be the point, bit like kevla cat using kevla reienforcements, just a big wank ,they havnt saved any weight if you look at thier specs and still 90 % polyester resin and chopper gun, could be handy for stopping bullets though!
and yes id run my 233 against any kevla cat ,i love watching the cat owners crappin them selves coming in the southport bar in a big swell and run out tide.lol

you sure carnt beat the 3000 for deck space il give it that.

Yeah I agree the kevla part of the name is an all round wank, suspect it adds nothing to the package over a marketing point to charge more at the showroom.

Does the 3000 maintain the same width to length ratio as the 2400?? the 2400 I think?? is a compromise as far as cats go to make it more trailer law friendly.

    cheers fnq

the 2800 and 30000 have the same width ,the 2400 is narrower i think 2.5m the 30000 are 2.7 wide and much bigger all round ,totally different animal to the 24 .the 30000 magnum would be my pick of the litter
